You guys know its a big deal when the title is capitalized right!? If you’re a long time reader, you might remember my love for Ben Uyeda from Homemade Modern Ben is a genius. He’s a plywood and concrete mad scientist. And he also happens to be one of the nicest people on the planet. Basically, Ben’s got a lot going for him. His latest endeavor is the UX4 and its going to blow your mind.
Meet the UX4. I know what you’re thinking. Its a bracket.
But wait until you see what the bracket does!
It turns any flat surface and 4 2×4’s into a table instantly. I mean we are talking so fast that you can whip up a table faster than you can unfold one of the plastic Costco ones. “Oh hey extra family members that showed up uninvited and now don’t have a place to sit! Give me 5 and I’ll make a table for you to sit at! Oh, and I hope you brought your own chairs….”
Ben has partnered with Swenyo to bring this thing to market and has 1 day left on their Kickstarter. I’m not posting about this for them (though I love them) I’m posting about this for YOU! Seriously, don’t miss the chance to get a kit before they are gone!!
Ready for the tutorial?
Step 1: Cut 4 2×4’s to size (my glass top is 3’x5’ so I cut the boards to make a 2’x3.5” rectangle)
Step 2: Attach the boards together at the corners.
Step 3: Attach the UX4 brackets.
Step 4: Place the 2×4’s in the brackets and screw into place.
Step 5: Add glass.
Step 6: Have an awesome table.
This is such a cool invention. I think I need a set of multiples so I can make lots of tables.
The glass top idea looks great, but how is your glass affixed to the table base? Is it heavy enough that it wouldn’t slide around, even with kids pushing and leaning on it? Or does everyone just need to be super careful?
