Haven + 4 Questions

What do a clown mask, a nude unitard, grape face, and dance skills that even my husband doesn’t see, have in common? Any guesses? This is not a trick question!!

They were all born at a blog conference!  Of course, there are loads of other amazing things happening, like learning and classes and connecting with brands. But there is also the craziness that happens after hours and that is my favorite part!!

How about if there is a little explanation? The Clown Mask happens because there is nothing better than popping into a room and scaring the crap out of people. (One time I almost actually got beat up. The worst part is that my partners in crime completely abandoned me to get my butt kicked!)

Unitard. Let me explain. There was a pajama party + contest. I of course wanted to win (prizes!) and decided that there was no way I’d top all of the cute jams that people crafted. The next best thing that I could come up with was to sleep “in the nude”.  So I decided to show up and streak across the stage in a unitard and a sleeping mask.

In case you’re wondering… I won the contest. (Thanks Jamie for having this picture!)

Grape Face: I feel like there isn’t really a need to explain this, right?

Dancing all the time!!  First one on and last one off. It even happens in the hotel room. And seriously, it only happens at blog conferences. My daughter would be so embarrassed!

This year I am OVER THE MOON excited to announce that I will be heading to Haven this year as a Mentor (along with these amazing women…and Jeremy)!

You know all those deep burning questions that you’ve always wanted to ask about blogging, projects, and general best friendedness? We are at your disposal!!

For those that are wondering how to get in on the action you’ve got to come to Haven! It can be absolutely terrifying going to something like this, I get it. I mean, MISS MUSTARD SEED. It does not get any more legit than that. It can be so intimidating to walk into a group of 400 creative talented and fantastic people. But  we’re here so you don’t have to go at it alone. I have met every single one of these women and they are the kindest, most wonderful, group ready to take you under their wings. (You know its got to be good to head to Hotlanta in July for a 4th time.)

You can get all the details on Haven here.  For those that are stopping by from Miss Mustard Seed and new to Vintage Revivals, lets get to know each other a little bit better, yes?

How long have you been blogging?

6 years in July. Before Pinterest, in the days of Google Friend Connect. I’m like a freakin’ grandma. In fact, I probably need most of you to mentor me on the way the “youngsters” do things now days.  I started blogging because I was completely inspired by what I saw women like Brooke and Marian doing, you know the middle of the night under the covers reading? That. I started with zero experience, zero skills, and a buttload of enthusiasm. The best part is that it brought all of you into my life! It amazes me on a daily basis.

What is your favorite DIY project that you’ve completed?

Gosh. The most recent? For me its all about the process and learning new stuff, that’s why the most recent is usually my favorite.  I LOVE Brem’s nursery.

And The Nugget is always a crowd pleaser.

My Loft Living Room makeover still makes me grin every time I walk into the house. (Unless its messy, then it makes me want to eat a cookie.)

Oh and just in case you were wondering, I’ve done loads of bad projects too (you can see the worst offenders here!)

What is something significant that you’ve learned from a conference?

Oh my gosh so much. Everything from business skills, to SEO, monetization, etc. but the most important thing is that there are people out there who get what I do. They are like me! Some of my best friends I’ve met at blog conferences.

What is one piece of advice you’d offer to a blogger, new or otherwise, going to Haven?

Just do it. Don’t be scared. Take a deep breath and come experience the community firsthand. It is amazing, but you’ve got to show up. There is nothing better than hugging someone in real life. I’m pretty sure the first time I met Katie we hugged for like 3 solid minutes (what can I say, we’re both huggers.) So come, cause I’ll be waiting with open arms!!

I’ve been dreaming about going to the Haven conference for a while now. One thing that was holding me back was my fear of coming alone but after reading your post and Marian’s post about coming, I’m really thinking about it!!!!! You are so inspirational and I can totally feel the pull to connect to other kindred spirits! Thanks for sharing your fun dancing video and encouragement to a baby blogger like me!
