Gearing Up for #NPW2015

By Mandi 05/07/2015

Last week I showed you an awesome dresser that I scored at the thrift store for $35.  What I failed to mention was not a recent find.  My AMAZING sister Amy just moved into her first apartment and one of our favorite things to do when she is in town is to head over to the storage unit of death and see what treasures lurk within.  This dresser was her fave.

How To Paint a Laminate Dresser

I fully support sharing your hoard with the ones that you love, Court fully fully supports sharing it with anyone who is mildly interested in any part of it.  Whatsoever.

The downside to this cute guy it is that it is made from laminate and was not in great condition.  Its been months since I painted a piece of furniture and because this dresser couldn’t be fixed up any other way, paint was the answer. (Actually that’s not true, we could have tin foiled it…)

How To Paint a Laminate Dresser-7

I have a step by step tutorial coming next week for painting laminate (you guys are going to love how it turned out!!) but I wanted to give you a heads up!  Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week is next week!!  Maybe this motivates you to find a paint project that you have the best of intentions for but just haven’t gotten to?  Perhaps one that your husband keeps threatening to throw away?

Next week 11 bloggers will be sharing a myriad of different project types and styles, there will be more inspiration than you could ever hope for.

Also while we are on the subject of paint, is there any painting tips or project types that you are really interested in learning about?  I’d love to share anything I can!

  1. Not gonna lie, when I saw a picture of that dresser you posted last week, I was green with envy.

  2. This is not so much a comment as it is a question. My home is 1917 and the previous owner used “popcorn”paint or plaster in my living room and I am sort of stuck with it as far as I can see. Is there any option or way to get rid of it or fix it or update it since the underlying plaster and lath(sp???) are starting to crack? Thanks for any suggestions.

  3. Can’t wait to see what you do with the laminate. We always give up on laminate furniture so it will helpful to see someone pull it off better then we have been able to. Now off to figure out a project for National Paining Week (how could we resist?)

  4. Ohhh, I’m so glad you asked! My hubs will definitely throw out my 2-year-old curbside finds if I don’t fix them this spring. How do I prep and paint rusted metal planters? Very rusted…

  5. What perfect timing!!!! I just picked up a small – two drawer filing cabinet I plan to use for fabric storage (thanks Pinterest!) and was about to start looking up how to paint this thing! Thinking with either a chevron pattern or ombre stripes 🙂

  6. Spray painting cabinet hardware! I’m worried I”m going to screw it up. This is thirty five year old hardware, so used the finish has actually worn off it and it’s down to the base metal, so I’m not sure *why* I’m worried about screwing it up.

  7. I think I need to know it all. especially for working with spray paint. But everything. I want to paint my first piece, it’s solid wood (usually totally against it!) And I’m not sure what to do.

  8. What are your thoughts on painting wicker? I have never painted wicker. Is it tricky? It used to be an outside furniture. What kind do I use?
