Let the Living Room Makeover Begin!! + Video

By Mandi 02/25/2015

Its HERE!! The moment that I officially un-officially move into a loft!! There is a lot of information and awesome things to remember in this post, so if you are a skimmer, settle in cause you wont want to miss this!

VR_Intro Post_For Twitter

First things first, I have teamed up with GE Lighting to completely overhaul my living room AND entryway in 4 short weeks. We are doing it real time Nugget style (hopefully with a few less redoing it twice projects…)  Every Thursday I will be sharing a #100reveal project that you can duplicate for less than $100 from The Home Depot and showing off the transformative power of GE reveal LED light bulbs (which will basically give you a room makeover in and of themselves) and a video (!!!) from the series that the unicorn sisters and I have been working on.

Also every week we are giving away (10) $100 Home Depot gift cards and a GE reveal® light bulb kit.

For all 4 weeks. (Enter at the end of this post!)

That’s $4,000 to The Home Depot and GE reveal® LED light bulbs for 40 of my luckiest friends!

So lets’ kick things off with the first episode in our video series shall we? Janae did SUCH an amazing job on it. Please pay attention at :33 and note how Court is TOTALLY ignoring me. Its real life yo.

The living room. I feel like having images that live forever on the blog makes people think that what they see is the reality at all times.

Living Room Makeover @ Vintage Revivals-2-2

You guys. How about a little reality check?

GE Reveal Light bulb-2

When the orange couch died we had to have some seating in there. So I moved the Laundry Couch out of my bedroom and into the living room. You know what a Laundry Couch is right? The place that you store all of your clean laundry? (Now that it is in the living room, we have a laundry floor.)

There are random chairs. No rug or coffee table. No art. No desk. The entire thing is just really depressing to look at. Amiright?

GE Reveal Light bulb-3

The obsession with living in a loft is what pulled me out of the funk. I think its a great idea before you rip everything out and start completely over to stop and look at the space and see what things you LOVE and keep those. Looking at the living room, the things that I loved were the black moulding around the windows. I feel pretty confident in changing everything else.

If you’ve been reading for a little while, you might remember the awesome Craigslist light that I had installed in Ashy’s room that was too little?

MidCenturyHangingLight

That cute light has haunted my dreams. I knew that it needed to be in the living room, but the problem was that we had cut the cord seriously short when we were hardwiring it to the ceiling. It is really easy to look at a light that has a less than ideal cord situation and feel like its not going to work, but the simple fact is that rewiring a light is one of the easiest projects you can tackle.

rewire 1

*One thing of note that will make you probably want to hurt puppies if you forget. When you are wiring a light with wire that already has an outlet on the end you have to work backwards. Start with the elements that are closet to the plug and work your way down to the socket…ie the chain will go on first, then the fixture loop, all the way down to the socket being last. If you miss a piece or forget to do this you’ll have to rewire your socket.

Rewire 4 copy

Lamp cord has 2 wires. The way to tell them apart is by the ridge on the outer edge of one. The smooth wire is Hot and will connect to the gold screw in your socket. The ridged wire is neutral and will connect to your silver screw.

Ok so have you guys ever used GE reveal® LED light bulbs? I never had, and I was sort of dumbfounded at the difference they made. They just make everything prettier. Seriously. I feel like I have totally been missing out my entire life not knowing about them!

Check out the difference. (Both of these light bulbs are 60W)

So not only is the GE reveal® light brighter, but can you see the color difference? All of the dark yellow tones are gone! You guys. This is like Photoshop in real life.

  1. Love the light! and the GE Reveal LED. I’m working on a renovation in my basement and getting those horrible CFLs out of the lighting down there!

  2. I want to redo my kitchen, but it’s open to the family room. I’m thinking pot racks hanging from the ceiling to at least make a visual divider. You should just come over and give me ideas!!!

  3. This is so fun! If I won the gift card it would go towards finishing my bathroom reno.

  4. Getting rid of my dark, old, full of holes, 70’s doors. Purchased the doors already…still need some fabulous knobs.

  5. We live in an old house full of projects, so it’s almost impossible to pick one! But Home Depot has great trim selection, so I’d probably finish trimming out our kitchen (and office and hallway…)!

  6. Love GE reveal! I need new lighting in my kitchen. I have a very sad 1970s era ugly ceiling fan/light fixture in there.

  7. I love the GE Reveal bulbs. I have them all over my home since they give off a nice white light. I’m working on a bathroom remodel and the gift card would be great!

  8. The difference in those bulbs is amazing! I have recessed lighting above my kitchen island that I want to convert to pendant lighting. I will definitely use these for this project if I win!!!

  9. Love that light fixture so much!! I would put the gift card towards replacing the dated ceiling fans in our house!

  10. Can’t wait to see what you create, Mandi! Home Depot cash is ALWAYS needed around here. I’ve got lots of crown moulding to install at my house, as well as finishing the big boys’ bedroom.

  11. just moved into a new home and i LIVE at home depot!! i’m on your website CONSTANTLY for inspiration. right now we are turning our small dining room into an AWESOME sitting area. think formal living but something we will ACTUALLY use because you’re not gonna want to NOT be in there! and the key is gonna be lighting….i think! anyways, thanks so much for all the great ideas and easy tutorials!

  12. So excited for your loft make over! I would use a GC to HD to buy new molding for my 90’s era house.

  13. I’d use the card towards buying white trim paint to get rid of our yellowing trim and/or buying concrete stain for all of our bedrooms that currently have carpet.

  14. So fun! I would use the gift card to buy supplies to help me landscape my super boring front yard. A first impression is always important!

  15. Who couldn’t use a Home Depot giftcard?! We need a new light fixture in our kitchen and about million other things to update it.

  16. Sounds like a fun project… and I see some brick installed already!!! 🙂
I would use the prize to glam up my walk-in closet.

  17. First time homeowner checking in for a shot at some Homie D’s cash! Thanks, Mandy!

  18. I have a stairway that was painted in the 70s and hasn’t been touched since. I really want to repaint and add a runner and new lighting!

  19. The difference the GE reveal light bulb makes is unreal! My floors have been halfway done for almost a year. 🙁
I would love to use the Home Depot card to finish them off!!

  20. Add me to the bathroom reno-ers list!! Straight up 80s up in there, and not in a good way.

  21. Who knew the GE Reveal bulbs make such a difference? Could definitely use them and a gift card to show my master bath a little love.

  22. i am planning to gut my “master” bathroom and i need to start stockpiling tile and fixtures. i say “master” only because it’s the bathroom in the largest bedroom in the house, but in the 50s, no bathrooms were actually masterful. sigh. but at least my house has two!

  23. Love this! I am just starting a full renovation of my 1920s Craftsman. If I win, there are no shortage of projects to tackle!

  24. If I won, I would get some new glass shades for my kitchen pendants that I have already picked out at the Home Depot and start on my basement organization so I can actually find the stuff I have been saving and hoarding.

  25. Where to start? I’m in the process of revamping my entire main floor. I don’t know exactly what I might use a hundred dollar Home Depot card but I know it would come in handy.

Love the brick, by the way.

  26. Definitely going to build and hang some shelves! I’m in desperate need of shelving and one of those gift cards would take care of that!

  27. Love the lighting fixture! Very unique. If I win the giveaway, I can’t wait to redo my master bathroom shower! Goodbye old and dirty shower surround, hello subway tile 🙂

  28. So excited to see your new living room!!!!!!!

I’m turning a part of our attic into an art studio.

  29. We bought a fixer upper house this past summer and still have a LOT to do. I could definitely use a gift card! 🙂

  30. I’m working on a new look for my music room so I would use it for that! So excited to see what you do in the living room!

    -Bonnie @ Revolutionaries

  31. That lamp is incredible. Now I’m wanting to finally rewire a mid-century pendant light that I’ve had sitting around forever!

  32. We will definitely be using it on the backyard, right now its a big pile of dirt.

  33. It would help towards fixing our basement! We have plumbing for a bathroom in our laundry room, but in order to create a bathroom we need to widen the space, move the door, drywall, etc. That’s our next big project! 😀

  34. I have a few things going on, but my favorite project right now is completely redoing my wicker back barrel chair.

  35. love Love LOVE everything about your living room redo so far! I am in the middle of a living room redo myself- some Home Depot gift cards would definitely be put towards that!

  36. Perfect timing on the rewiring post. I need to convert a light for my daughter’s room. Love your blog!

  37. Kitchen – I’m always thinking of things to do/redo in the kitchen…………………

  38. Well since its a lightbulb, That hideous 1990’s fan in the living room needs to go. Not sure what to put in it’s place though.

  39. Those light bulbs made a huge difference! Basically my entire apartment has no built-in overhead lighting. I would love to overhaul our lighting situation and get some awesome fixtures!

  40. Oh man, I hope I’m a winner so bad!!! I am desperate to get rolling on a bathroom re-do that is WAY beyond needed at my house, and have already been pricing supplies at Home Depot for the project, but it will take a long time, budget wise!! I know EXACTLY what I would use $100 on at Home Depot and it is the most delicious 12 x 12″ marble tile that they just happen to carry!! Also, I have been eyeballing the new LED lightbulbs, since apparently regular bulbs will soon be a thing of the the past, right? thanks for the awesome giveaway, AND the light re-wiring info too, Mandi – YOU ROCK!!! good luck everybody 😀

  41. I just bought my first home this summer (an almost 100 year old shotgun home!) and my boyfriend and I have been renovating our home all on our own, which is awesome for multiple reasons (minus when we tore down old drywall and could see daylight peeking through on the other side – getting some substrate in their was the only thing we haven’t done ourselves)! Our current project is our back bedroom, aka, our beloved “Hell Room,” which REALLY made you feel like you needed a tetanus shot, a la the MLS listing photos of your home, Mandi! (I so wish I could attach photos of it because you just want to take a bath with Clorox wipes when you see the photos!) We recently completed putting up and finishing new drywall in that room and the next big item for the Hell Room is to repair the floor (there are about 24 holes of varying sizes in the floor) with some old douglas fir boards that we bought at a local vintage/restoration shop and then begin refinishing the floor using a drum sander and floor edger on the floor, followed by many coats of shiny, pretty poly! We previously rented the drum sander and floor edger from Home Depot (we’ve refinished all of the other flooring in our home, all of which is original – SCORE!) and LOVED them! And the end result of bringing these almost 100 year old floors back to life is STUNNING and feels SO good knowing that we are the ones doing so! I would use the $100 gift card to rent the sanders from Home Depot, as well as buy the different grit sandpaper and with any leftover it would go towards our sweet little baby “Hell Room” (because we’ve still got LOTS to do, girlfriend)!

LOVVVVEEEEEEE everything about your blog, by the way! Keep rockin’ it, Mandi! *whispers FEARLESS* 🙂

  42. We just bought a house and there is no overhead lighting in any of the rooms minus the kitchen and dining room. I would love to add lighting to all our other rooms!

  43. I have a chair and table that both need refinishing but I am manual sawing away limbs for a ladder. I think that a ladder against the wall would be cool.

  44. My husband and I moved in to our first house a year ago and have been slowly DIY-ing each room. Our guest room could definitely use some help!

  45. I hope I win! We are starting a breakfast nook reno and $100 would be awesome! Or the lighting kit! We have big plans for new lighting for the nook as well! OMG thank you for the fun offer and all the tips!!!

  46. Redoing any lighting situation in our house is necessary (it’s always so dark!) but i especially want to fix our master.

  47. I can’t wait to try these reveal bulbs in our dining room. We rent and unfortunately cannot replace the old ugly fixture. I hope these bulbs will help fix the dreary, yellow light that it gives off at the moment!

  48. The previous owners of my house painted the living room, master bedroom, and bathroom the worst shade of dog puke yellow ever. It must have been on sale or something. I’d really like to get rid of it!

    1. Replying to add the #100reveal tag. I never win anything, it’s really love to get this!

  49. Wow! This series is going to be amazing, the videos are so fun and done so well! And the brick!!!! I’ve always dreamed of a loft space and I’m actually going to be adding faux brick to my bedroom design this year. Love it!

  50. Wow I’m so excited for this series! I have this cut out in my living room and I would love to put brick in there, can’t wait to see how you do yours! But the room that needs a lighting update is my daughter’s. She doesn’t have any overhead lighting and her room is so dark in the evening. Would love to install a cool overhead light for her.

  51. I have this light fixture in my basement and it’s awesome. The only issue is 5 out of the 6 lights are working. I am now inspired to go and Mandify it if I win. Hey, even if I don’t win I am still inspired to go and do it. Thanks for inspiring me to be fearless.

  52. Oh my, I have so many prijects I could use the $100 at home depot for! What comes to mind forst is buying the lumber for the quad built in bunkbed we are making for our boys… we just yanked out the carpet yesterday so that we could put down Allure vinyl plank flooring first. Hopefully building will start by the 10th of March.
It would also LOVE to replace all our lights with LEDs, we’ve been doing it slowly and it make such a difference!

  53. I would probably start tackling my bedroom! Possibly a Diy headboard… Also I have been searching for a sweet topo map with no luck… Please consult with me before getting rid of yours if you ever do! 😉 Really tho I don’t live far and would seriously come get it from you !!! Can’t wait to see your new room, they are always my fav…. Until you do something new anyway 🙂

  54. I would be so excited to change my kitchen chandelier – it is so bad, its embarassing!

  55. I’ve been wanting to do a bathroom “refresh” for forevvvver — $100 could go a long way! Awesome series and giveaway. Thanks!

  56. we need to move out laundry room upstairs to the mudroom and this would be the motivation we need!

  57. What perfect timing! I’m convinced I can DIY a light fixture for my dining room make over! It would take my entire room budget just to buy one off the shelf and I just have to come up with something. I know I could get the parts I need at HD and make something amazing!

  58. we are tackling a complete kitchen DIY Reno this summer and I would faint if I won some moolah to put towards it!

  59. Oh I need those light bulbs in my life. I recently moved to Georgia from Utah and it’s so dark and gloomy I keep saying I need to get some brighter lights in my life or I’m seriously going to loose my mind!

  60. I’ve been slowly replacing all of the boob lights in our home we built 3.5 years ago. Lighting is always on my mind these days!

  61. I am expecting, so have been dying to let some creativity flow in the nursery..and my living room…and my bedroom..I suppose this could be summed up as “nesting”! Your blog has been so inspiring, I love it!

  62. Oh! What fun! I would use this on redoing our master bedroom. I have been wanting to make a new headboard and update the wall behind our bed.. maybe even do some painting….

  63. Sad to see your awesome orange couch go but Im excited to see what you come up with next! We are in the middle of our kitchen redo and that $100.00 would come in handy.

  64. I would LOVE to win! My hubby and I are slowly changing the house we bought last year, and the lightbulb and gift card would be a huge help!

  65. I need better lighting; these bulbs are awesome. I need to rewire a couple lamps also. I need light and bright in my life!

  66. we bought an older home a couple months ago. We are in the process of tackling the whole house!!!!

  67. I definitely need to try these GE reveal bulbs! Every light in our house seems so yellow which in turn makes the walls looks so beige! Blahh!!

  68. We would buy concrete stain from the HD! We’ve been talking about staining our front porch, and we decided to go for it when spring rolls around!

  69. I’ve been putting off dealing with our downstairs bathroom while we finish a complete kitchen overhaul. I would LOVE to finally get rid of the pedestal sink (Seriously. Who puts a pedestal sink in a full bathroom) and change the lighting.

  70. I would put a few more lights in our kitchen.

Far more important comment – I mostly watched this video to see if you were wearing a T-shirt covered with cheetahs. You were! Wear did you find it?

  71. We are building a tiny-house…ish place to stay on the weekends and I’m diy-ing a lot of the lighting and the new bulbs and the hundo from Home Depot would be a great help!

  72. Oooo! Me! I have touched every room in my house with a tiny bit of decorating EXCEPT our craft room/office. It needs a desperate facelift. We spend zero time in there because it is so boring and non-functional. I would love to take first steps to get it useable!

  73. we are in the process of building…we would love to score some goodies for our new place

  74. Totally inspired to swap out all my old light bulbs with the new led bulbs! Such a difference! If I won, I’d have to finally create my reclaimed wooden slab headboard that I’ve been dreaming about for months. #100reveal

  75. I am so excited to follow this loft style living room! It is my dream when the kids are grown up and moved out to find a loft and make it mine! Insert evil laugh!

  76. What a great project! First I want to tell you how obessed I am with exposed brick. I’d love a tutorial on your process when you get that done. If I were to win one of the $100 gift cards I would start with redoing the lights in our living room. Our house is older so there is no lighting in the ceiling and we depend on several lamps spaced throughout the room. I’d love to come up with some industrial style lighting for our space.

  77. Those lights look amazing. I need to go check them out.
We started redoing several rooms in our house last summer but have only finished 1 so far. A Home Depot card could help me get a little bit closer on one of the other rooms.

  78. I am going to paint the interior side of both of my exterior doors. Oh, and my guest room too!

  79. We are in the process of switching out our bulbs to reveal. The difference is incredible! This spring we are ripping out the 20 y/o rug in our living room and putting down dark cork tiles to offset the natural wood wainscotting and white walls. The gift cert would definitely help out!
I love the loft look too!

  80. I am so jealous that you have such great craig’s list finds in your area! A Home Depot gift card would be perfect to get our spring projects started! The list is long this year and includes painting the foundation (to match our new siding!), ripping out lots of cement and putting down pavers, and overhauling the flower beds(new edging and plants)!

  81. I would loooovee to finish my built ins in the basement that have been a work in progress for the last 3 months. Also, add baseboards to our bare walls in the basement. You are soo AWESOME I cant wait to see what this loft will look like!

  82. What a blessing it would be to win! We’re welcoming our first little into our lives this year, and I would be beyond overjoyed to re-do the room that will soon be the nursery!! Money is tight but I want to give this baby a happy place to sleep and one day play!!! Thank you!

  83. Love it! Can’t wait to see your room when it’s finished! We are doing a whole house makeover!

  84. So exciting! Can’t wait to see the transformation of your living room. I am working on updating my spare bedroom to my home office/DIY room…currently in the process of converting an awesome outdoor chandelier into an indoor chandelier, so the GE bulbs are exactly what I need!

  85. Crossing all appendages for a win 😀 We are doing some small renovations to our kitchen, and this would allow us to replace the terrible fluorescent fixture we’ve got in there.

  86. I’m excited to see what you’re going to do. I’d like to redo my 1/2 bathroom, but have no idea where to begin. It’s just plain old builder’s beige in there!

  87. Getting closer to the painting stage of the remodel of my first home…$100 for paint would be awesome! Love the difference that the reveal light makes too!

  88. Love the loft look! I need to spruce up my whole house so mentioning just one project would be hard…. but first off would be updating the kitchen!

  89. I would start on my garage. It’s so full of chairs and lamps and random furniture I can’t part with. My tools are everywhere, and I have no workspace. No HotPockets for this family because my miter saw is set up on top of my freezer so we can’t open it. I keep all my drill bits in a baggie. I cringe every time my husband goes out there because he is so bugged by the mess. And I am starting to get bugged that he is focusing on the mess on not all the awesomeness I produce. So a hundred bucks toward storage and organization solutions would go a long way toward improving my marriage. I could build some shelves and a work bench and then (finally) unload all the stuff I have been hiding in the back of my car. Plus there is a copper bowl out there I really really need but can’t find.

  90. My husband and I are in the midst of renovating a fixer-upper we bought in November (as in, gutting everything down to the studs!) with hopes of moving in in the spring, so a Home Depot gift card would pretty much come in handy for anything we’re doing!! Namely paint, lumbar, and hardware 🙂

  91. If I won, I would put it towards a new tankless water heater. My house is seriously lacking some closets and this would open one up!

  92. I would get crackin’ on our master bath remodel….or maybe the farmhouse table I am going to build….or maybe updating the laundry….or……… So many projects and ideas swimming in my mind! I just need to pick and stick!

  93. Love the loft-like idea! (I’ve always wanted to live in one myself.) Our master bedroom is in huge need of some love, and a gift card would certainly help out. 🙂

  94. We are fixing up the 2nd babies room – this would be great for the overhead light fixture we need to install (along with some closet upgrades!)

  95. I got a chair a few months ago that I have been waiting to paint/reupholster. I would love to use some of the money to get the supplies I need for that. I would probably get a new power tool with the rest!

  96. Hi Mandi! If I were to win, I would love to refurbish our front porch. We live in a century old farmhouse and the porch paint is peeling like a sunburned tourist! Thanks for the opportunity. Good luck with your lofty endeavors 😉

  97. Never won anything before. Why not now?!

Also…I’m obsessed with all your stuff. Ive done two sharpie walls, 2 himelli wreaths, 3 himelli hearts, tribal stamped my bathroom, always thinking of the next thing. Hoping your new loft won’t make me jelly to the point of redoing my whole space tooooo. Good luck!

  98. I can’t wait to see the new living room! I’m redoing our guest room right now so a gift card and light pack would definitely come in handy. Thanks Mandy!

  99. Those lightbulbs are amazing!! Where have they been all my life?? Can’t wait to see your big reveal, but more ham anything can’t wait to follow along in the process!!! Sending positive vibes and lotsa luck!!!!!

  100. Love the direction you’re going! I’m wanting to install moulding in my house and redecorate my son’s room!

  101. We are redoing the outside of the house this spring and I need a new front door or at least to paint the existing door. I also have been very bored with my interior and am itching to change it. Looking at the difference in light bulbs, that may be all I need!

  102. I found a super cheap campaign dresser at a garage sale last summer, and it’s just been sitting in the garage waiting for a makeover. I would use the HD gift card to buy paint, poly, sand paper, etc. 🙂

And I can’t wait to see where you’re going with your living room now that we got a sneak peak of the bricks behind you!

  103. redoing our entry way and hall. light fixtures are on the list & some new bulbs to go with them. thanks for the chance to win.

  104. We’re on the verge of new flooring in our entire house & this would be SO helpful in pulling that trigger.

  105. I would tile my kitchen floors. Recently, I took out a cabinet that was blocking a door and now there are 2 types of tiles on my kitchen floor. Ugh…
I alrady know which tile I’m going to get at Home Depot. Fingers crossed!

  106. I’d grab new stair treads for our back stairs. They’re EXTRA slick, especially covered in ice right now!

  107. That video was awesome…can’t wait to see it all come together!

If I win a GC I will finally tear out the biggest awkward built-in-shelves in the laundry nook and build a simple drop-zone bench and hooks area #gamechanger for a Mama!

  108. Whoop! Whoop!
Too fun, Mandi! Love your enthusiasm!
We are on our FOURTH home gutting/ remodel. Oye. We keep saying ‘never again, last one’……

  109. My mother could definitely use the gift card towards changing up her foyer. She’s had the same rug for ten years, and her house is making her kind of sad right now.

  110. Is that a sneak peak to the living room brick I see? I love it! I’m moving in about a month so a gift card will help me purchase those random odds and ends that you always need when moving into a new (to me) house. Thank you!!!!

  111. I would change the lighting in my stairwell!! It is an old brassy fixture with ruffly glass globes!!!!!

  112. I cannot wait to see what you create! If i win the GE lightbulb kit, I will use it to complete the transformation in my laundry room. I’m hard at work creating some good juju in there so that laundry feels like love and peace not hate and war.

  113. this month we are digging into a 1950s kitchen/dining/living remodel….i have salvaged some awesome vintage fixtures and furnishings for the space but just having adequate lighting will make a major difference!

  114. We love our GE-reveal led light bulbs. Looking forward to seeing more videos in this series.

  115. I love how you show how easy things are once you know the right way to do them. If I won the gift card I would probably use it for my craft room. Right now there is a table and boxes…

  116. I would tackle my desk / craft area! It’s in the corner of a large room that only has one overhead boob light in the center. I seriously need some lighting over there, and some organization for my crafty things.

  117. I’m currently figuring out how to tackle black-out Roman shades in our rental, that still go up and down… We’ll see. 🙂 Do you have any favorite sites or videos on rewiring light fixtures for people that don’t know what they’re doing? It sounds easy enough, but I don’t want to burn my house down, haha.

  118. So glad you posted this tutorial, I’ve been hoarding some lights for a while and needed a kick to get them working again. I would tackle a mudroom with the money. As in punch a hole in my garage to make a mudroom!

  119. Ahhh – I have twins coming! I would love this Gift Certificate to help me get the nursery ready…paint, wood, lights!!! HD is my go to spot so I would eat up the $100 in a flash!

  120. I love whatever brick project that is going on behind you!! Can’t wait to see the transformation. I am currently working on two bathrooms that desperately need new lighting and some awesome lightbulbs!!

  121. My next project is tearing out a wall in our bedroom to extend the bedroom into some unused hallway space! Ive been dying to get this done. 🙂
I’m loving the brick wall! I’ve been wanting to do something similar in my living room for a long time too. Can’t wait to hear how it goes!

  122. What a great start to your project! We have high ceilings and just one window in our living room, so some better lighting there would be amazing.

  123. I would work on our hall bath : add a concrete skim coat to an 80’s integrated sink and paint the base cabinet a moody deep teal.

  124. You made rewiring that look so easy! I have a gorgeous brass lamp I bought at a thrift store that I want to rewire and find a shade for, so I would definitely use the gift certificate to finally do that!

  125. We are converting our guest room bed to a Murphy bed so i can finally (!) have a craft space. And bonus, maybe my in-laws will stay with us less if they have to sleep in a Murphy bed!!

  126. I’m planning on building a storage trunk for the end of the bed. It’ll double as storage in my LA loft (which has NO CLOSETS, whomp whomp) and a way for my beautiful aging pup to get into bed at night!

  127. What a helpful post! And the GE lightbulb is amazing! They would be perfect for lighting my sewing/crafting space which is too dark. I would use the gift certificate to help with my craft room organization/makeover project.

  128. I absolutely adore that light! Hmm, we just moved into a new house (yay!), and my to do list is numbering in the thousands (at least it feels like it), but I would love to tackle a DIY Lindsey Adler chandelier above our dining table. You’re such a decorating genius, now that we have a home of our very own, I will be scouring your blog for inspiration!

  129. I adore everything you do!!! I would love to make over my Master and get more light than my single 2’x2′ window!

  130. Hi Mandi! My partner and I just bought our first home. Yay! It has some seriously gorgeous features including 2 bay windows, a double-sided stone face fireplace, french doors, and some amazing moldings that the previous owner installed around the windows and doors.
Unfortunately it also has some features I’m not too thrilled about.. paint, kitchen cabinets, and in particular, just about every. Single. Light fixture. 1980s ceiling fans eeeverywhere.. INCLUDING the kitchen (what the what?!?!). The only exception is ONE super cute Tiffany style ceiling light tucked up in a tiny hallway like a secret treasure. I do have some seriously good thrifted fixtures waiting to be rewired and hung… but I had no idea how to do it before your tutorial 😛
Also, the house faces west and the bedrooms are located on the north and south sides. Due to construction done by the previous owner (enclosing the screened in porch on the east side), the only windows in the main part of the house are those west-facing bay windows. There is very little natural light, except during the late afternoon. It is DARK. When we do get that late afternoon sun, it is very orange-y and the walls are currently a pastel yellow-green… so everything looks like puke.
I needneedNEED to win this $100 Home Depot gift card and GE Reveal LED light bulb package so that I can rip out all the ugly fans and replace them with beautiful, bright, warm LED light!

  131. We are creating a true guest bedroom (you know, as opposed to a “throw in everything that doesn’t fit anywhere in the rest of the house, plus a futon” room), so I would do something in there. Hooks and shelves maybe?
(Are you sure Court is ignoring you at :33? Couldn’t he just be thinking really hard about the awesome hand motions you are making in that moment?)

    1. hahaha good point! What the video doesn’t show is 45 seconds later he looks up and says “Uh, what?”

  132. Mandi is starting a new project… and the Lord said “It is good”! I’m soooo excited!!!

  133. I absolutely love this project and can NOT wait to see all the updates and videos! I too yearn for loft life… If I win one of these awesome Home Depot gift cards, I’ll be putting it towards installing a chandelier in our dining room…the chandelier that has been mean-muggin’ me from a box in the basement for months. Help me get this bully off my back!

  134. I’m in need of some more storage for my office, so that’s what I’d be putting that $100 toward 🙂

  135. I’m SO excited for this!!!!!! And thank you for the chance to win a Home Depot prize, we love ALL things Home Depot. If I win I will get a new light fixture for our stairwell! And we’d love to figure out some fixes on the funny track lighting we have in our living room, in our 1920’s home?!

  136. Wish my boyfriend was more of a fan of vintage furniture. I love your blend of styles. I should have bought more mid century modern pieces before I moved in — now everything has to be a joint discussion!

  137. Oh I’d love to win! We need to replace the six (!) motion sensor lights outside the house we just bought, and I’ve fallen in love with one of HD’s fun industrial-y ones. Saving up though because $300 is a lotta dough, even though the lights themselves are cheap!

  138. we are slowly restoring all of the plaster walls in our 1910 bungalow, so the gift card would probably be used for joint compound, dura sheet rock 90 powder, and tape… Less than glamorous, I know.

  139. I would LOVE to win this. I am about to build a bench for our entry way and would use the gift card for that!

  140. Thank you for this tutorial! My hubs and I are looking to move into our fist ever house, and we are ALL OVER the idea of finding somewhere with charm and character that just needs a little love. Home Depot is going to be our BFF no matter what, and to win this drawing would be amazing!

  141. I’d repaint my grody rental walls and replace the lighting! No more gross, at-least-it’s-only-for-4-years college apartment 🙂 #100reveal

  142. Awesome! Love the look of the new light bulbs. Might have to pick some of those up! I’m usually the ‘cheaper is better’ option but the lighting situation for photo-taking has changed my mind! Love the fixture too! Looking forward to your reveal!

  143. Can’t wait to see the finished space! You’re always so daring in your adventures and I’m sure it’ll turn out beautiful.

  144. My house is a rotating remodeling project. Like, there’s constantly a room in dysfunction! It bugs my husband and my son so much. And that’s why it’s so. much. fun. {Insert evil laugh here} Currently, I’m tearing apart our bedroom, which is super duper fun because the husband is annoyed. {More evil laughing} I’ve been to HD more times than I can count in the last month. What would they do if I broke out a gift card to pay? Probably die of shock. Let them die… 😉
P.S. I REALLY do love my husband. And he’s extremely patient, so he’s a keeper!

  145. That light is amazing. I would use the $100 toward new light for my closet which needs it. Badly!

  146. So cool! I’m trying to find a perfect floor lamp for my living room with super high ceilings…the little baby one I got for $8 just isn’t cutting it anymore.

  147. WOOHOOO! I’m so excited to see your loft transformation!! If I won the gift card I’d use it on my own living room overhaul I’m working on! Specifically building a media console to tackle this crazy mess of cords!! Can’t wait to see the progress next week!!

  148. The living room would be first on the list! Mine’s a little sad too… It could use a little pick me up!

  149. I have so many projects in my brain that this giftcard would be great to go towards. Painting various rooms, building shelves, update my patio, the list seems endless.

  150. Wow what a difference that light makes! Two things: with that Home Depot credit, I’m going to FINALLY finish our set of 3 1920s lockers that I’ll be using for all my craft things. We need to build shelving inside and also poly them, so that the rust is sealed and doesn’t get worse. Right now they’re just sitting in the garage and I want to look at them every day, so badly. And then with this light situation, I have an old pulley thats dying to be used as a lighting fixture! BAH! I hope I win! Excited to see your finished room!

    xo Ashley

  151. I’d use the $100 to remove this giant, unnecessary mirror that is literally glued to our bathroom wall and replace it with shelving and storage!

  152. I’m so excited about this series! If I win, I’m going to finally create a shelving unit for my two boys’ room!

  153. I have a light almost just like that in our newly purchased home – I am not sure what to do with it. As soon as I saw it, I thought, I need to ship that thing to Mandi for her to work her awesomeness on it! Mine has little notches cut all in the sides where they had crappy yarn strung around it for a shade. We’re going to LED lightbulbs, too!

  154. I would use the giftcard toward buying new baseboards and moulding for my living room! It needs a little facelift! Looking forward to following along in all your new projects!

  155. Love the difference a little lighting can do! My living room is currently that ugly yellow you were talking about. If I won I would love to add a cool chandelier and some wall lights like you did with the copper wall sconce.

  156. I want to try those bulbs! If I win I will work on making my industrial piping DIY bookshelves for my living room.

  157. I need to bring some warmth into my apartment- maybe a new plant with the gift card??

  158. My husband and I are moving from an apartment to a new home in April so we got a lot of projects on our Evernote. We’re ready to do everything! rugs, coat hangers, coffee table and sound panels!

  159. I want to glam out the inside of my bedroom closet with stenciled walls and custom shelving–something that would make me smile in the mornings. Thanks!

  160. I want built-ins soooooo bad. They would make a world of difference in my living room. Our house is over 100 years old so I would like make them true to form with modern perks… lit shelves, cable connections, & built in outlets.

  161. We are over-hauling our bathroom. Sadly, the medicine cabinets I bought won’t work and now I need to find two new awesome mirrors.

  162. I bought my first home about 9 months ago & it majorly needs some paint. Love the loft ideas!

  163. Dying over that craigslist lamp! Also can’t wait to see how you loft-ify this space! I’ve been wanting brick veneers for what feels like forever now!

  164. I have a ginormous brass light fixture that has a broken cord (whomp, whomp). I’m wanting to transform it with paint, plus fix the cord – and now I want some of those amazing Reveal light bulbs!!

  165. So many projects to do in our house! First…maybe make the drop ceiling in our basement look like it’s not a drop ceiling. Or…replace the horrible florescent light fixture in the kitchen. Or…rip out the yucky carpet on our stairs and refinish them. Or…

  166. mandi if i don’t get to add floating shelves + a new light fixture + (if the budget allows) some subway tile to my little bathroom i am going to lose my already scattered mind!

  167. I just bought my first place and plan on doing some renovations! I want to tackle our lack-luster kitchen and turn it into a key element of my home.

  168. I’ve got the plans printed to build a new dining table. Now I just need the wood. Come on HD! 😉

  169. Awesome project! I definitely need a new light to highlight our now no-longer-pepto-bismol-pink double stairwell! ….or the $100 would definitely come in handy when going to Home Depot everysingleday, sometimes twice, or more, thanks to our fun fixer-upper 🙂

  170. We just put an offer in on our first home. To stay within our price point we have to buy a major fixer upper, yeah, I’ll be needing all new light fixtures, let’s just say I’ll start there. I love that video, really cute!!

  171. Mindy,
“Revealing” the before and after lighting effects is a brilliant (literally) way to show off the difference in effect of the GE Reveal lighting. I actually believe they could cure the “winter blues”—or blahs. As an artist, color tone is so important to what I do. I am grateful for the rewire video, too. I have several vintage lamps that need it, now that I know it isn’t at all scary.
Anything left of the $100 Home Depot dollars after my lighting projects would go to another kind of bulb—in my garden.
    Thanks for the inspiration,
    Karen

  172. Finish my bedroom makeover (I’m redoing a metal bed and wooden dresser and also need to do something about the light, so this is perfect!)

  173. Love the brick on your wall!!!! I am working on a pallet buffet for all of my white party supplies. Would love the gift card to finish purchasing all of the finishing touches!!

  174. Love your projects so much – such great ideas!
We are getting ready to move, so if I win, pretty sure I will have a gazillion projects !!!

  175. Our next room to work on is our twin 2 year old girls’ bedroom. Right now it’s just primed with nothing on the wall. I’d love for it to get some attention!

  176. I really want to tile our bathroom floors. The laminate is looking so dingy, no matter how much I scrub it still looks dirty. I’ve never tiled anything before, but I’m willing to give it a try!

  177. SO many things I could do in our little cabin with $100 Home Depot bucks! And with our open, rustic ceilings a little more light wouldn’t hurt either!

  178. My husband and I recently got married (May 2014) and we have been renting a house for a few years. I just got into building furniture and DIY projects so I really want to turn out house into a home. I want the whole house to feel more like us. I would use the $100 to help build our dining room table (my first big project). We’ve never had our own dining room table so I am beyond excited to start building it!

  179. I would use the $100 Home Depot $$ for flooring in my bathroom! And brighten up the room too!

  180. I’m working up the courage for a big kitchen and back entry facelift. There are lots of CFLs that need to be replaced in the kitchen. There is also SO MUCH PAINT to buy. It’s a lot of work, and requires packing up the whole kitchen, so I’ve been putting it off by adding to my hoard of stuff. 🙂

  181. hooray! i’m just about to embark on a master bedroom makeover; it’s a long room with only one light source- so i definitely plan on putting some fabulous light fixtures in there!

  182. Mandi, you’re adorable! What a cute video. If I win I’m going to paint my daughter’s crib!

  183. LOVE that light fixture. I’m going to scour CL in my neighborhood to see what I can find. Would be much better than that builder grade boob light I currently have, no? Looking forward to this series!

  184. We’re desperate to clear out the extra room that’s become a dumping ground and create a fun, creative playroom for our daughters! That’s so much for your inspiration and this giveaway!

  185. We really need to replace our front door. Our door is so old it still has the old school green glass in it. Ha ha!!

  186. I am totally at home Depot and reading this post! This would be great for the fabric cord light I want to make!!pick me…pick me.

  187. I’m currently transforming our bedroom from a space we hate to a space we love, but also our basement needs some major tlc!

  188. We are expecting twins in a few months so if I win I will use it to get their nursery going. I want a new light fixture in there to replace the awesome builder grade “boob” fixture it currently has, plus we plan on painting and doing some sort of awesome wall feature on one wall. I would definitely put the money and kit to good use!

  189. GE Reveal bulbs are all the rage right now, I seriously think I ned to try them out!

  190. I would use the gift toward a bedroom makeover! I have it all drawn out but the theme is mountain-scape as we live in Colorado:)

  191. Oh what I could do with $100 dollars at HD! And I would love to get rid of the freebie CFL’s from the power company!

  192. I’m going to finally repaint the terrible colored rooms in our condo. We have 14 ft ceilings so it is a daunting task….

  193. Oh man, we’ve been wanting to install some baseboard heating in our future nursery and another one in our basement. We also need a new hot water heater so this would definitely go to good use! Thanks for the chance.

  194. You are so inspiring and have helped my DIY spirit come out of hiding! I’ve got about 5 in-progress projects going on right now so that gift card would be awesome! Plus, my birthday is Saturday 😉

  195. I’ve been putting off a complete fireplace + mantel project so this would be helpful in kicking my butt into gear! I anticipate your living room reveal, love your creativity!!

  196. Tons of projects! Wainscoting in the bedroom and living room, window and door trim throughout the house, and trellises for my veggie garden are the ones I have going currently.

  197. The yard is in a seriously need of some help. Id use it to buy some new plants and a few tools to kill the weeds.

  198. I am actually looking to work on a lighting project! This would be awesome. I have to check out these bulbs!

  199. Hi! I love this and am so thankful as we are about to embark on a similar project with some mason jar hanging pendant lights!! Thank you for this, now I know how to do it!! 🙂

  200. I would love to win this! We’re getting kicked out of our rental home (they’re selling it) and we’re looking for a place to buy and call our own. With our budget, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a fixer-upper. This would help go toward making things beautiful!

  201. This will be the most boring answer but… we would use it to insulate the floor to our kitchen bump out!!!! How fun is that? So fun.

  202. Ahh, so awesome! If I win the gift card, I’m going to build a cute bench for my bedroom!

    Sarah
    thesurznickcommonroom.com

  203. I’m currently changing a pretty traditional coffee table into more rustic industrial, and I need wood, stain, casters, and new handles. I also have the world’s worst lighting situation in my house and I desperately NEED these light bulbs!

  204. I will tackle our night stands! Must make some new ones and just need the little help from Home Depot to make this a reality! Living without side tables in the bedroom is just plain awful.

  205. First, my husband and I ONLY use GE reveal bulbs – no joke. They are the only thing that make our underlit apartment look sunny, happy, and cheerful (and we can’t add more lamps, because we have a super active toddler who LOVES cords and can finagle her way past any babyproofing). But… we’re moving soon! So we’re going to have lots of projects to tackle, including refinishing a couple of hand-me-down pieces that we like, but don’t yet love.

  206. If I win (which I am totally crossing my fingers for) I will be working on my bathroom. It is really small and I need to re-tile the floor and spruce up the rest. I found the perfect soap and toothbrush holder, now I just need to do everything else around that.

  207. if i won – we’d totally use it to help fix up the garage storage area and my craft room!

  208. If I win the gift card I’m going to build an entryway bench with storage drawers underneath for boots!

  209. Do I have the perfect project for an awesome Home Depot gift card?! Yes, yes I do. My tiny bathroom that need some re-do and serious storage solutions.

  210. We live in a 1907 farmhouse and our living room really should be the dining room and our bedroom really should be the living room..get all that? We have a lot of windows yet our house is rather dark since we have a wrap around porch pretty much all around the house. I would love to get back to a dining room with a wonderful BRIGHT vintage light over a farmhouse table. We need to restore the hardwood flooring too so renting a floor sander at HomeDepot would be fabulous!

  211. fun! If i won I would tackle the lighting in the kitchen and forever say goodbye to florescent!

  212. I really need that lightbulb, like, 10 of them! I’d use the HD gift card to get some joint compound, toilet fixtures, and those light bulbs. Home Depot- I’ll be seeing you soon!

  213. We live in a teeny tiny house which is challenging when it comes to decorating. I love your blog and have many projects that I want to try. 1st up is our bedroom. The $100 would go for paint, to build a new bed and new lighting, I have been collecting treasures for the final touches!

  214. 1. Took the Reveal test run a while back and will never turn back.
    2. Getting ready to start a diy 1200 sq ft hardwood install on our main floor. That should involve approx 50 trips to HD… so… I think I would save the GC for the project incidentals – you know, the have-to-have-or-I’ll-die Diet Coke at checkout….x50!!!

  215. Hello 😉 My better half and I, just bought our very first home together! It is a cute, 1930s bungalow home that is in need of our eclectic touch. Therefore, the entire house would be our project!

  216. I would love to turn my dining room into an extension of my kitchen… I need more kitchen!

  217. Love this new series! I cannot wait to see what your loft is going to look like. Cannot even. Way to pursue your dreams! HD gift cards + new lights stretch far in our house remodel! We’d start getting better lighting , like can lights, in the house! I’m going to go and pick up some of those GE bulbs ASAP!

  218. I am just coveting that light fixture. It would go perfectly next to my piano! $100 to Home Depot? What wouldn’t I do? But considering the timing, I would probably have to use it to think up some fabulous DIY wedding favors. Or power tools; depends on my mood!

  219. seriously can’t wait to see your progress in the living room. so we are officially taking on the kitchen, walls are already down, and i’m super excited for this minor makeover. this would truly truly help. can you say backsplash, new microwave, flooring, and counters? yay!
    b

  220. My entryway!!! I’ve been wanting to replace the fixtures there. This would be a nice start to it!

  221. Loved your current living room, so cannot wait to see the new one! Plus these lightbulbs are crazy! Must be magic…

  222. We just got new countertops in the kitchen so this would go toward tiling the backsplash!!

  223. So excited for your new living room! Just moved into our first house and it could seriously use some updated lighting – I’m thinking a couple of schoolhouse pendants would be a great start and would suit the age of the home.

  224. love the light!
my project – could be any number of things: shoes storage bench, fun mirror for daughter’s bedroom, artwork for large empty living room wall, playhouse conversion (which currently has a play kitchen into a space more suited to 8/10 year olds) or just a ton of those reveal light bulbs 🙂

  225. I’m excited to see your living room transformation! Kind of boring but I would love to replace my 90’s light fixtures in my bathroom.

  226. I can’t believe what a difference that light bulb makes! Can’t wait to see what tricks you have up your sleeve for your updated room. 🙂

  227. That is crazy about the bulb difference! I would do so much with the gift card. Thanks for the opportunity!

  228. I am so excited to see you’ve made that epic light fixture work for you! We’ve just recently started switching out light bulbs in our home with a combination of LED and the day light CFL bulbs and I love how I can SEE everything!

  229. I am SO excited to follow along with this transformation. I’m already loving the glimpses we’ve had of the brick wall. Yay! My project would definitely be for the bedroom, either a bed frame and headboard or a dresser build.

  230. I have been using CREE bulbs and have really liked them, but would love to give these ones a try too! We basically need to replace every fixture in the fixer-upper we just bought less than a year ago, so I will try anything 🙂 What a difference between the two pictures!

  231. My and husband want to finally make an urban herb garden on our balcony… I have been drawing up planter box ideas for awhile!

  232. We are in the middle of redoing our house…slowly. $100 to The Depot would be game changing!

  233. I would buy supplies to shore up the bed that I built out of lumber last year—it still looks really good, but I think it needs new legs and additional support because it has become very, ahem, squeaky. And then I would somehow spend the other however many dollars because I always walk out of Home Depot with a million things I didn’t know I needed.

  234. So excited to see the transformation of your living room! My dining room is in dire need of a lighting upgrade so this would be perfect (lightbulbs and new fixture all in one)!

  235. Love your blog so much! We are in the midst of so many projects, I don’t even know where I’d begin….probably the basement bathroom #scary

  236. Our living room needs to be changed. Think 1950’s house…ALL Plaster and Lathe walls. 2 overhead lights and low ceilings.

  237. We are putting together a game plan to start on our basement bathroom so $ to Home Depot would be awesome!

  238. I am in the middle of so many projects (more so, I have my husband doing them for me) :)! $100 gift card would be AWESOME!

  239. Hi! I’m a new reader and I must say that I’m loving it over here!! New projects and makeovers are so boss. If I were to win I’d funnel my winnings into the new home we are on or way to purchasing! Thanks!

  240. I’m going to tackle repainting the fireplace…home depot to the rescue. Thanks for the giveaway!

  241. First of all, I LOVE the video and can’t wait to gather inspiration from your new living room 🙂 This is such a cool giveaway. I think we would use the Home Depot cheddar to put towards a new chandelier in our dining room and stick the new bulbs in it 🙂

  242. So there is an opening in the wall between my front living room and kitchen that was randomly put in by the last home owners. This opening wouldn’t be so bad except for the fact that because of it, the first thing that you see when you walk into our home is the fridge! The fridge people! Now if the fridge could be made of diamonds or…I dunno…chocolate, I wouldn’t mind so much. But until then, closing up the opening and putting open shelving in the kitchen would be exactly where that $100 would be going! Like…tomorrow. Now if I can only convince the husband…

  243. I just bought a new house, so there are LOTS of projects to tackle, but I think first on my list is getting the dinner room/kitchen perfected! Can’t wait to see your progress on the “loft”!

  244. I LOVE that you are doing another real time project. My husband and I are finally deciding what to do for a backsplash in the kitchen. $100 to Home Depot would be an awesome help!!

  245. Love the light quality form the GE reveal bulbs.

If I won, I would put the money towards painting my concrete floors like you did in Dylan’s and Ivie’s rooms.

  246. I would love to make a new lamp(or rewire an old one) to hang over my bed, and I need to finally get started on my new work bench, first I need to settle on a design and stop changing my mind. 😉

  247. Hi Mandi, just want to say I am a religious reader of VR (I check your website everyday…no jokes, it’s an addiction I’m afraid) and have always been too shy to post a comment…BUT I am so excited about your living room reno and this giveaway that I am finally going to do it! Our master is in dire need of some help as we live in a semi-basement, so my plan is to brighten the crud out of it!

  248. I love the difference in the two light bulb photos at the bottom–that is amazing! I would use any winnings to decorate the new house we moved into last July. 8 months later and it still needs A LOT of work!

  249. I am going to paint and put new hardware on my kitchen cabinets, and maybe throw up a backsplash if I feel really adventurous.

  250. I would use the gift card toward new baseboards! Love the loft concept you are going for!

  251. So excited for you Mandi! I am just finishing a padded headboard. Mine is in front of a window so the back has to be finished too. Lots of work but it is looking awesome! Thanks for always providing me inspiration! GO GIRL!

  252. I’d love to do a built in bookcase in a niche in my living room that’s lighted from above.

  253. I could so use a Home Depot GC now… please pick me! I bought LED light bulbs recently and would love to have more.

  254. Fun! I’m in the process of picking out a backsplash for our kitchen. My top choices are from Home Depot! Keeping my fingers crossed.

  255. Love the mid century light/. We have a bathroom that hasn’t been touched in 22 years. The tub is worn and the floors are ….let’s just say, less than lovely. What a blessing this prize would be in that direction.

  256. Wow, I am so impressed by this awesome partnership between VR and GE! And I am even more impressed by the super cute and super informative video in the post. Way to go! Hmm, let’s see – which project would I tackle…? That’s tough because I have about a list of a 100 I want to do. Probably going to tackle finally painting our bedroom. I know, its boring. But it is so needed. And then creating and hanging some stellar artwork. We’ve lived in our house for 5 years and our poor bedroom has made itself the family martyr. Whatcha gonna do? Other than give it a little TLC with the giveaway, of course. 🙂

  257. I want to live in a loft too! If only. I would love the gift card and would use it to get supplies for a bench I want to make for our bedroom (so our English Bulldog can jump onto the bed).

  258. we are just starting a master bed room makeover, so I would love to have some “project money”! I am excited to see your new living room. The sneak peak at the wall looks so cool!

  259. We have a floor lamp that has not worked for sometime but still looks really nice – I’d like to rewire it.

Also — we are buying our first house (closing tomorrow!!!!) (!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 !!!!!!!!) and that Gift Card would definitely help a sista’ out!!!

  260. I am soooo excited that you are doing the #100 makeover reveal. It is exactly what I feel like the site has been missing. Have fun with the room! Can’t wait to see it!

  261. Nice! I love lofts too but can’t actually live in one so I’m super excited to see how your transformation turns out.

  262. Thanks for the giveaway! Also next for me is a refresh of my living room. Art, wall stencils, new flooring, lighting…

  263. Ahhhhhh!!! I love it! I have soooo many lighting projects to tackle in my house – horrible brass light in entry way, boob lights in the bedrooms, awful ceiling fans…

  264. I can’t wait to see what you do!! I need to build storage for my office area and $100 bucks just might motivate me. Thanks for the giveaway.

  265. this. is. awesome.
can’t wait to see the loft living room! and from someone that works in photoshop every day – those home depot light bulbs – gotta get some. first time commenting. been to your blog a million times… totally obsessed with your style! thank you!
    ~h

  266. I bought a vintage floral lampshade and I desperately need those sweet Reveal bulbs for it!!

  267. I love your blog! I come here often to find inspiration. Thanks for putting forth such great projects. With that said a home depot card could come in handy for working on my baby boys nursery.

  268. I just bought a house that needs a little love. I’d use the money fire supplies to reno my bathroom!

  269. We started a bathroom renovation, just finished tiling the shower with 907 white subway tiles from Home Depot!! Buying floor tile next from them and $100 would be great!!!!

  270. is it bad to say i want landscaping? and we’re selling our house so i could certainly use new lightbulbs. eek.

  271. i desperately need to give my dining room a revamp! Including a new light fixture! I hope I win!

  272. Yay! So I would really love to tackle the lighting issue in the rotunda area of our home. It’s this really cool space that is 2 different colors and wires hanging from the ceiling because we removed the not so pretty chandelier that had hung there. Need Help!!!!!! XOXO

  273. I NEED those light bulbs! We moved into our home last Summer so I didn’t notice our lighting “situation” until Winter was on its way. The lighting in our house sucks! It’s terrible! I’m positive new light bulbs would be a great start. Then I want to replace some fixtures as budget allows. I’d love to find a light like your thrifted one, above, for over my dining table!

  274. So excited to see you transform your place!! I love your style and I’m Looking forward to see what creative ideas you come up with that I can use in my own home!! As for which room…umm…I’ve been in my home for 2 years and I’m still not done furnishing and decorating!!! So every room needs HELP!!!!

  275. That pendant light is so beautiful! This alllllllllmost gives me the confidence to update the fixture in our bedroom. Almost! That gift card would really put me over the edge and make me go for it! 🙂

  276. I have a mid-century tension pole lamp that I saved from the trash, but needs a lot of love!

  277. I would tackle the room I added onto my house. I never selected light fixtures for the room, so they’re just basic builder light bulbs hanging. It’s kind of sad, cause that room was added almost 3yrs. ago!!!

  278. please help. Had to fire my contractor, now have 1000 sq ft of wood flooring sitting iny front room. I need the money.

  279. I need to try those lights out, my house feels like a cave when the sun is not aimed directly at my windows. Our next project: We need to tear out an ugly drop panel ceiling in 3 rooms to freshen up our 100+ year old house. Then we’ll need to get some new light fixtures to go with the new higher ceiling. There are many more projects on our horizon.

  280. I’m so excited to see your living room! Brick is my fav. I would love to make a cool light fixture in our bedroom. I think it would really light up the space and give it a totally different fabulous look! Thanks for the giveaway Mandi!

  281. Love this! I can’t wait to see what you do to your living room! I’m having a baby in June so we’re painting the nursery and getting it all set up, it’d be awesome to have some great lighting in there for little one!

  282. I am itching to redo the whole dining room. The light in there I have hated since the day we moved in. It is from high end designer but just not my style. I would start there. My sister tells me to sell it and use the money to buy what I love. I should probably listen to her. Or I could win a gift card.

  283. We’re getting ready to redo our master bathroom, and next is the kitchen! The list is never-ending :\

  284. My laundry room! We had an unfortunate leak in the kitchen above and had to tear it apart! Specifically I would probably use it towards a back splash!

  285. We’re converting an old old duplex behind our house into our master suite! So many projects!

  286. My living room is also in desperate need of a makeover – I would get paint and supplies to build some shelves!!

  287. The molding throughout my house needs to be replaced. A gift card would help to get me started!

  288. We have just moved the DH’s home office from the garage (too cold, too hot, too ugly…) to the front room of our small house. I am building one long/narrow industrial style desk and wall shelves for him and I envision some interesting/attractive hard wired hanging pendants for his task lighting (as it is the first thing people will see when walking into our home).

    Christine

  289. Photoshop for real life is exactly right! Those light bulbs are awesome! Excited for the next #100reveal

  290. We have a linen closet situation that needs to be addressed! Could definitely use some storage stuff from HD! Thanks for the fun!

  291. That light is fantastic! I need it in my life.

I just got done refinishing a hardwood floor that was covered by carpet and splotches of paint all over (evil previous owners!) and would use the $$ to get started on another room!

  292. We just priced paint at Home Depot for our home’s exterior, and this $100 would go a long way toward making it happen. Now to choose between White Clay and Sandstone Cove…

  293. After finally removing all of the 80’s wallpaper in my bathroom, I need to paint it. It looks horrible! Thanks so much for the giveaway.

  294. LOVE the light. I need to repaint our master bath… it’s peeling off the walls is going to be a huge project!

  295. Can’t wait to see how things turn out for you! Our next project is new floors for the kids rooms!

  296. Oh, I have so many projects! I think the thing we’d do first is get better lighting in the office / craft room.

  297. I could definitely use some new lightbulbs- new lamps…new ceiling fan…new dishwasher. Something completely necessary will be done if I win this prize. 🙂

  298. So excited to see the new living room! I would like to update some light fixtures with my $100 🙂

  299. We’re going across Canada this summer for 2 months so we’re redoing our 90’s trailer – paint, wood counters, tile – EVERY thing. The Nugget was one of my inspirations so that’s what I’m working on!

  300. Hi! I’m 27, single, and starting the process of buying my first place. I would use the gift card to create a faux brick wall…I saw that in the video soooo I’m hoping that tutorial is coming up! 🙂

  301. Love this!!! Can’t wait to see ALL THE PROJECTS! I’m going to paint all of my doors black!

  302. OOOOH my front room DESPERATELY needs some loving! Updating the lights, the couches and the rugs would go a LONG way!!

  303. I am so excited to see how this turns out! You are my home style icon, girl <3
WHEN I win (haha I love how you phrased that) I'm going to work on redecorating my son's room because baby #2 is on the way and I've gotta figure out how to fit two kiddos in that small space while still keeping it cute and functional!

  304. I’d use the $ to buy a new railing for our staircase. We just replaced our floors and need something that matches.

  305. I’m going to use the giftcard to build myself a new coffee table that actually fits my space!

  306. AH!!! I’ve been obsessed with these GE lightbulbs. I would probably end up replacing every light in my home if I won!

  307. We’re renovating the apartment above our store for our family to move into—from the studs on out! I’d use the money for drywall and paint and tile and trim (or at least as far as I can stretch it).

  308. I would love to have non-yellow lights in my dining room! So excited to see what happens next in that space.

  309. I have an adorable light gathering dust in my basement because it needs a new cord! Thank you for the inspiration and for showing me just how simple it is! That’s just where my gift card will go.

  310. I would get crackin’ on the front porch makeover that we have been taking about since we put an offer on our house! So long concrete slab, hello flagstone.

  311. Well… I’m not sure that you’re really going to read all of these, but I have to say I was pretty excited to see brick (I love brick)! And what will I do with $100 to Home Depot?… That’s hard (there are a lot of possibilities… there are a lot of projects in need of starting and completing around this place), but for the sake of deciding, I will say it would go to finishing the bathroom, or paint… could always use some more paint 😉 (Those are the likelies, hopefully that counts).

  312. Loved the hanging light you rewired. I’m going to be on the hunt now for something similar. If I won $100 at Home Depot I would probably use it for paint & lighting. I’ve been slowly painting the house room by room and the living room is next.

  313. Looks amazing! Loving “loft living”!! I am planning a ton of DIY wedding games and ideas for my Septemeber wedding! Thanks for enticing the creative juices!

  314. I’m trying to learn more about woodworking. And want to be more fearless with my DIY.

  315. I have an endless list of places to put these light bulbs, we’re remodeling our entire house down to the studs! I could really use some awesome lighting in the kitchen tho! Thank you for all the inspiration!

  316. Um this is so cool!! My eyes are very sensitive to light, this is something I would really love amd I would replace every light in my home!

  317. Thanks for the giveaway! Can’t wait to see how you make this living room into a loft…if anyone can do it, its you, Mandi!

  318. That light is amazing the shape is super fun. Also, I’m gonna have to check out these lightbulbs, I hate that the ones I have are so dark and yellow. Also, I so agree that a loft would be the coolest to live in (but only if it has access to a rooftop garden!) Can’t wait to see how that faux brick wall turns out!

  319. Woops, I totally missed the prompt for this! If I were to win, I’d use the gift card to start fixing up my very first home which I hope to be purchasing this year! I don’t have anything specific since I haven’t even begun looking, but I’m definitely planning on buying home that needs a little love! So there will definitely be tons of projects to tackle 🙂

  320. I need to rewire a few lamps. Plus play around with some light bulbs to get a better color in some rooms.

  321. Can’t wait to see your lofty new space. Let’s see … we just purchased a new fixer; so what project? How about some paint and cabinet hardware for the kitchen???

  322. I can’t wait to see your real time loft living room! I would change all the lighting in my house, because the difference is amazing, my house needs some real life photoshop! Thanks for the chance!

  323. EEEK! I love the feel of the loft and can’t believe what a difference that light bulb makes! I’m turning our old root cellar dungeon which is probably a portal to the underworld into my own space, our house was built in 1925, it’s a small 2 bedroom cottage that I’m obsessed with and I can’t wait to have my own little space to go crazy with.

  324. I am building a grape pergola, need a kitchen backsplash, and am currently replacing all my pot lights with LEDs 🙂

  325. Mandi!!!! I need some of those light bulbs in my life. Loving the brick and light fixture too! Of course I’m going to enter for the Home Depot card duh. This girls bathroom needs to be completely redone. Fingers crossed I win it!!

  326. I would love to finish our master bathroom reno which would definitely include lighting and tiles and paint!!!

  327. We are renovating our new old home currently and the current project is the kitchen. That $100 would sure help with all the tiles I have to purchase!

  328. Hey! Could you please ask Home Depot to allow Canadians to enter their contests? We have a pile of ’em up here and I haunt their aisles whenever the Project virus gets ahold of me. Thanx!

  329. I’ve been eyeing all of these pretty DIY jewelry storage / displays on Pinterest FOREVER (and a day). SO, if I win I would finally make my own!

  330. I want to redo the 2nd bathroom. It is tn need of a serious redo. The $100 would go along ways to getting it started.

  331. Hi Mandi! Soooo excited for your loft redo!!! This is just amazing for you! And the GE Reveal lights! Ooh my goodness!! I know EXACTLY where they would go!!! One in my living room first no matter what! And for the gift card… I built my home with Habitat for Humanity 13 years ago this December. But get this- my oldest daughter is getting married in April, I turn 50 (!!!) Nine days before her wedding! Yes indeed-y!!! And my Youngest daughter (Hopefully!!), graduates in June! The middle daughter hasn’t come up with anything. Yet! And my Hubby and I are FINALLY taking our Honeymoon this year, 10 years married. Almost 15 years together.
But that Home Depot gift card, if I win, will go for paint for our bedroom. Which STILL has NEVER BEEN TOUCHED YET. Isn’t that kind of funny though??
I really figure it’s our turn to get our room done. I thought some nice soothing paint. Pretty crisp clean trim color. Some shelves. Curtains to cover the closet. The doors took up too much precious space! Maybe a nice piece of carpet remnant?? Or just a nice colorful runner rug. That is ALL the room there is!!! Can you tell I’ve thought about this? Just a little. Ha ha ha!
I just cannot wait to see your next post!!!

  332. I enjoy seeing real time renos on your blog and reveals. So many great ideas. I’ve been obsessed with the closet barn door and so want it in my master bedroom. If I won the $100. I would 1st finish my kitchen cabinet doors with new knobs and remaining towards a new light if there was any. Look forward to seeing your loft reveals.

  333. Omg! I love this redo; just helped me with the confidence to tackle something like it to hang a pendant light over my sink! Thank you!! If I were to win the $100 GC, it’d go towards my master bath redo. It’s a tiny, pink (make that PINK!) room that needs to leave 1989 behind and enter the new millennium!

  334. We just bought our first home and have little furniture, so I’d love to use this gift card toward materials for a new dining table, shelving, and more!

  335. I would use the $100 to get supplies to update my kitchen bar, and lighting. Thank you for this opportunity to win!

  336. We are mid-makeover on our kitchen/dining room area and need a new light fixture for above the sink plus new hardware before we can decide if we want to paint or not. I could definitely find something to spend that gift card on!

  337. Soooo many things I could do with $100 from Home Depot! We live in 1882 brick home that is ALWAYS in “project mode”. A DIYer like yourself (well, not as accomplished, but jealously inspired to be 🙂 our Home Depot credit card could always take a break! …and totally impressed by your side-by-side comparison of the GE Reveal, going to give them a try!

  338. That light is awesome! I love finding treasures like that on craigslist or at junk shops. Found a great Lane coffee table for $5. Just needed some cleaning up and perfectly new again. I think the living reconstruction is off to a good start.

  339. Within the next few months we have to move, so we will have to liven up a new place if we win 🙂

  340. Very ironic…I recently bought a petite vintage cage chandelier…needs rewiring, bulbs, and a good cleaning or paint (can’t decide)…this is so helpful already! What I am most likin’…I think I can do it myself now~My goal for 2015…to tackle my list of projects with very little “man hand”!

  341. Just about every room in my home needs a facelift. But, maybe this will give me the push to start with changing out the huge entryway chandelier. Do these awesome bulbs even come in the pretty chandelier bulbs? I’ll look into that!

  342. We just installed new lights in our living room and it made such a difference! Now I’m ready to redo the lights in all of our bedrooms!

  343. Whoa the difference in those two bulbs is crazy. I’ve got some lights that could use some photoshopping power. And I love the POWER of the Home Depot.

  344. I am currently working on our living/dining room. Re-loving and painting some vintage finds right now. Would love to change out all the builder grade lighting for something that screams me!!

  345. Oops – I’m another one who commented first and read instructions last. If I win, I would put that $100 toward the turquoise glass subway tiles I’m dreaming of for my kitchen backsplash.

  346. My husband and I are about to tackle our gruesome 1950s slab concrete basement, which has been decorated with the full 1970s disco roller rink treatment by previous owners. Pretty sure we’re going to need $100 worth of Goo Gone just to get the red shag carpet tiles removed from the foundation walls. Yep. This is my life.

  347. first project with my winnings…. Make a second Anthro tea cup light that I learned from you years ago so I will need a light making kit. Also need 2 light fixture for a long hall. And need some lumber, screws & L brackets to make a simple loom. I am going to use my mom and dad’s old sweaters to make a room size rug! I made a trial run bath mat size and I am going for room size. It’s fabulous in my mind.

  348. Cannot wait to see this redo in action. I am going to build a credenza for my living room to office conversion.

  349. You are such in an inspiration to tackle projects. I’m just about to embark on staining my dining room chairs and redo my living room. Trying to use all older pieces and modernizing them myself with some trips to Home Depot and actually thinking of doing one of your light remakes and some GE lightbulbs. Thanks for the great blog!

  350. Just got into my first house flipping project! If I won that $100 I’d put it towards some awesome lighting for the bedrooms… Need to replace the ceiling fan/light that was designed to look like the nose of a fighter plane… Think airplane and shark combined. So fancy!

  351. I would save my prize for my new place. Whoever buys my house can win their own LEDs .

  352. That is mind blowing how much that Reveal light bulb changed the atmosphere/ambiance!!!

  353. I honestly have been looking for the right light bulbs to get rid of the eerie yellow glow that I currently live in, so this is perfect. I will definitely be updated my lighting asap!

  354. My dining room!!!
I’m a blog stalker and re-did my Dining room 2 years ago. To someone else completely style. Do you know what I mean? I love it for other people but it’s so not my jam. Too light, not enough color, too crafty and just. not. me. A do over needs to happen but my husband is about over my commitment issues so a 100 bones and light that makes my crappy cooking look better will do a long way to change his mind.

  355. I acquired an antique red glass lotus lamp a few years ago and recently changed out the fixture and bought my first LED light bulb for it. I got “daylight” and not only was it bright like the sun, but i had it hung near my kitchen window and for anyone driving by my house at night, they might assume that my name is Roxanne…. *ahem* (insert VERY bright red light in the window)… NOT the message I’m going for. lol I think the lamp would be better suited as a faintly glowing accent piece. I was using the incandescent reveals before i switched to the awful CFLs, so I’m glad to know these are in LED form as well.

  356. I live in a rental with three kids and need to make my basement space more palatable so that we have a place for them to hang out with their friends. Paint and lighting are on the top of my list!

  357. Wow! I can’t believe the difference between the 2 bulbs. Makes me want to go change all my light bulbs!

  358. I am obsessed with orb chandeliers, would LOVE to get one of the Foucault Orb Chandeliers from Restoration Hardware, but with my current budget. Yours looks great!

  359. This is a great project and I can’t wait to see your new loft! I am purchasing my first house and am so excited to get to work on it! Thanks for all the inspiration. #100reveal

  360. Gonna tackle the craft/computer room to make it more user friendly. Maybe I’ll finally have room to craft!

  361. I cannot wait to see the space and more projects like this! And I think I need to go change all my bulbs now, brb : ) I am also wanting to replace some boring builder grade lighting in my house and this would totally help!

  362. Love your blog! What project? There are always so many to choose from but right now we are in the midst of restoring a 1967 Airstream and I am updating my daughters bedroom. #100reveal

  363. Oh my! I have a laundry couch too! Ha ha. I would love to redo some things in my bedroom. You know, so it looks amazing around my laundry couch.

  364. In the process of making our cookie cutter house ours – would LOVE $100 from Home Depot and what space doesn’t need a little light? LOVE the new light, amazing to see the before/after with the GE light bulb

  365. Ugh! My house could use your help! I would love to win and be able to do things with some money that isn’t my own! 🙂

  366. My daughters’ study room needs more personalization – this gift card would definitely help steer us in the right direction!

  367. I can hear you talking as I read every word of your post, Mandi… 🙂 You write just like you talk and I just love it! 🙂 Loving this GE project all you girls are doing – and I SOOO need to pick up some of those lightbulbs. I can’t stand the yellow lighting and those look amazing. Oh and $100 to Home Depot – I think I have about 20 projects on the list that I could use it for… But I am thinking a kitchen project – maybe towards some new countertops would be my first priority.

  368. Trying to finish a HUGE living room/kitchen/bathroom remodel and to the point where budget gets tight….

  369. Can’t wait to see how the living room loft turns out! I would use the $100 THD gift card to build myself a faux fireplace in our FL living room.

  370. I am going to install shelving in my living room and kitchen!! This would be a BIG help!!

  371. I would love to redecorate our bedroom, I’ll be moving my office desk to our bedroom. I’m still debating if I have to install a lighting over my desk or settle on a lamp. Whichever I need some good lights over me when I’m working on my computer. I could use the GC too to make adjustments on my toddler’s room. I want her to have a reading corner in her bedroom, make wall murals and install shelves for the books and yes it needs some good lighting too! Thank you for this awesome chance!

  372. Love Love Love your new project! I connot wait to see it finished. Thank you so much for the chance to win a pack of those amazing lightbulbs and not to mention… the 100 “smack- a -ronies” in gift card form to the HD! I’m thinking that my craft room revision would use it all up.

  373. Oh my gosh this is the giveaway of my dreams! 🙂 We bought our first house in October of last year and the living room is so sad and dark. We seriously need to figure out a new lighting situation.

  374. I’m having a baby in March and I haven’t had a ton of wiggle room for nursery decoration, so I’d fix him up a really special place. Thank you! 🙂

  375. Oh, I want in on this! My living room has been waiting so very patiently for new paint and lighting.

  376. I had no idea the difference those GE LED lights would have! I’m going to buy some for myself – I’m actually redoing my living room this weekend!

  377. We need new lighting in my daughter’s bedroom (current lighting is so dim). The GE LED lights would transform her entire room.

  378. I just repainted my hallway and replaced the ceiling lighting. I would use the HD card for shades to go on my sliding glass doors:)

  379. Love that light fixture! We’re working on our master bath, reattaching the sink to the wall and putting up some sort of wainscoting.

  380. Just bought a house… Do I have to add anything? I don’t even know where to start from… Probably my bedroom.

  381. Love that light fixture! Have a lot of projects brewing right now–am obsessed with wood! I would use a HD card on an electric saw of some sort–jigsaw maybe?–to assist with a wood art piece I’m working on. My arm is ready to fall off from using a hand saw!

  382. We are in the middle of doing our nursery – would most definitely use it towards upgrading light switch & outlets!! Or perhaps new hardware for the dresser – the possibilities are just endless!

  383. I need to do metal backsplash and something with the cabinets in my kitchen to finish my re-do of the countertops and sink (doing the Henry/Ardex feather-finish concrete on them 😀 so amazing)

  384. I was just thinking how I need better lighting in my craft room. I love LED lights, and they’re finally becoming affordable!

  385. So many projects, but the first one is to widen the base of the stairs and continue with the reno on the basement.

Kathryn, I was going to do that concrete countertop this year but could not find that product anywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m in Canada? I just thought they shopped making it and I can’t find anything similar.

  386. My husband and I just moved into a loft style apartment and I’ve been going nuts with DIY projects! This month it’s lamps (ahh, the timing, it’s perfect!). Lots of inspo and projects from vintagerivivals!!

  387. Love your vintage light! I would love to replace the boob light in our entry. Can’t wait to see your room makeover!

  388. I want to install V-groove wooden planks over the ceilings in, like, EVERY room of the house!! The perfect 1X6 tongue and groove is available through the Home Depot!

  389. I will forever (FOREEEVER) covet that light fixture.

    *drool*

    oh, that’s gross.

    Sorry.

Anyway, I would change out all the hardware on our interior doors. So cheap. So brass…so ’80s…

  390. We’re getting ready to move and changing out some of the lighting is the first thing on my list! Loved this tutorial!

  391. I’m moving into a new house (filled with dim, slow to warm up, and all-around LAME CFLs). We really want to add a cool pendant light over the island – so I would use the gift card and the bulbs to make my kitchen really stand out! 🙂

  392. We are moving and have been looking for lighting in the dining room, so I will tackle this first!

  393. I would love to start a project with my bedroom back at home, or design an “landlord friendly” apartment. I love diy and LED lighting is definietly needed! Love that light!

  394. I am desparate to have decent lighting in my office! The wires currently hanging out of the ugly dropped tile ceiling are driving me crazy. Both a new ceiling and light fixtures are needed STAT!

  395. Need to get the 1980s ceiling fan out of my living room; would love to get a new light from HD!!!

  396. Man! I have been needing to upgrade the light in my walk in closet to something brighter and this would certainly start it off! Then I would just finish off with fixing as many other lights in the house with the remaining. Thanks so much for this opportunity!!!

  397. I am so excited to see what you do with your loft!! That brick wall is going to look fantastic!! And those lights are amazing! Can’t wait to try some out!

  398. Amazing difference from that GE bulb! I need to repaint my basement (goodbye beige!) and would love to win the giftcard – thanks for the chance!

  399. The Reveal bulbs are the only ones I use; they’re fabulous. If I win, I will use the gift card towards adding cabinets and shelving to a wall in my dining room as we desperately need the storage space for books, music, videos and decorative items.

  400. Oh how adorable is your new light. I die. I am actually looking for something like this for our living room. My hubster and I have been working on a couple different progects. Currently I am using the downstairs bathroom to pee because our main upstairs bathroom is in the works of renovation and remodel. Our project to be worked on next is our kitchen. Updating much !!! So I would love any opportunity to win this. Thanks for all your Mandi inspiration. ✌️

  401. Um – I would totally start working on the lighting situation in my house – too many boob lights to speak of!!

  402. That video was adorable, and I can’t wait to see more progress from your amazing lift space. (Knowing the way you decorate, I’m probably going to want my whole house to look like your living room after you finish!)

And sign me up for the $100 gift card give away as well. I never win anything, but maybe I’ll get lucky and win this thing so I can use it to reno our bathroom that we haven’t been able to afford yet.

So stoked for this new video series! Amazing job to the unicorn sisters and yourself for putting this together! Love love LOVE IT!!

  403. Awesome! We want to finish our basement bathroom and will need everything for it – tile, toilet, vanity, faucets, etc.!

  404. My boyfriends house has a horrible dining room lamp. You know, the generic, fake brass candlestick ones? Yeah, that. I would love to be able to replace it!

  405. Love this lamp! I’m working on a couple of upholstery projects that the $$ would come in handy for.

  406. I would love to tackle my outdoor lighting and get my founting running again in time for summer! XOXO

  407. Whoa, can’t believe the difference in the lighting! I have lots of house projects to tackle, first will be either the master bedroom or the laundry room. Can’t wait for the rest of your lighting posts!

  408. I’m actually just getting ready to rewire a picture light this weekend! Its going on the new “Billy Built-ins” I’ve added to my guest room/library. Looking foward to seeing your living room progress.

  409. Doing a remodel in our kitchen and need new lighting throughout. Just finishing up the wonderful pantry that needs updated lighting; then we will start in the main kitchen area! Fun, Fun,

  410. I would update the columns in our living room to give it a more craftman feel. Gotta try out those reveal bulbs, such pretty light!

  411. Seriously, PERFECT timing. Im getting ready to tackle a master bedroom makeover. this could go a long long way! Cant wait to keep reading!

  412. We are also going to be tackling some DIY projects over the next month! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  413. At this point, we are in an apartment. It needs some love. And swamp coolers. Is that the boringest thing you have ever heard? Well, let me just say. It gets really hot here.

  414. I LOVE the GE reveal lights! I would use the money to redo my basement. It flooded a year ago and we are still working to put it back together!

  415. hmm, i have a lot of light fixtures I want to change out! If I won, it would prob be to fix the light in my kitchen. I have one of those ugly fluorescent light fixtures…ugh!

  416. I want the stiple? crows feet off my ceiling. I’m 3 rooms down with several more to go. Home Depot I need joint compound!

  417. Next on the DIY agenda is the laundry room. I see white board and batten & colorful touches. And I hope I can find a great light like that one on Craigslist!

  418. We have so many home decor projects to tackle since we just bought out first house a few months ago. We will be working on the family room first. So I would use it for the built it library wall we are planning! Yay!

  419. I was able to do a remodel on our first floor to get it updated, now it is time to start on the second floor. I want to tackle the master bath first with simple fixes like new vanity light fixtures, new faucets and replacing the linoleum with the vinyl planks that look like hardwood. Thanks for the chance to win. Kim G in Texas

  420. Oh My… all the projects that need to be done. I suppose I would start on one of two projects that are top on my list. I have a few chairs that I would love to repaint and reupholster OR… we are going to try and build custom bookcases in our living room. That one seems so difficult and out of reach, but your blog makes me feel like I can tackle this project! Thanks for the opportunity!

  421. I just tackled a board and batten wall treatment in our basement, but now I’d love to do something similar in our master bedroom. 🙂

I love your blog and all the inspiration that I get from it. Keep up the GREAT work.

  422. I love that light fixture! I need to find one for my next project, I will be working on a relaxation/meditation room! I’m super excited, the color of the walls is going to be radiant orchid! Winning that gift card would be a big help!

  423. I love your rewired light! Would definitely use it in my dining room which has been almost empty for the 7 years we have lived in our house!

  424. I just got these giant electrical spools that I can’t wait to turn into something great.

  425. I’d love to build myself a badass headboard. Sadly, right now I’m headboard-less which makes my bedroom look so unfinished. Womp womp.

  426. I LOVED the reality check…people think bloggers have perfect homes and we do…the day we take the picture and only in the picture. Outside the frame is chaos. Those light bulbs are pretty great! 🙂

  427. That light is so amazing! We just moved into a new home so everything needs to be fixed! But it’s definitely exciting. Please share more of these little fixes because they are SO helpful. Keep up the amazing work!

  428. I would use it to update our main bathroom, or to buy a new toilet for our master bath. Exciting, I know!

  429. I admit to loving your LR even after the orange couch’s demise…clean, restful. Lacks a little of your typical energy but still recognizably Mandi! Looking forward to seeing where you go loftwise, though. Thanks for the giveaway!

  430. Paint all the things!!! No really, my walls are just the wrong color and we just need to liven it up in here!

  431. Such a great space! We need to tile our kitchen and there’s always a million projects in the works with our new house.

  432. I would use the $100 Home Depot gift card to get the materials to finish off my barn’s new cool room, climate controlled for storing freshly harvested veggies.

  433. I had no idea that the correct light bulbs could make such a difference! I thought they were all the same. Thanks Mandy for “shedding light” on my illusion. With the #100reveal I would use the money to transform an old 80/90’s oak entertainment center in to a bedroom storage unit. Can’t wait 🙂

  434. So envious of your loft move. I live in a basement and natural lighting is becoming a faint memory. Actually all lighting is becoming a faint memory. Basements are dark! If I won I’d tackle a standing lamp project. I’ve had my eye an old telescope base that’s just itching to be turned into a light. Pick me!

  435. I am finally going to tackle my living room!! Finish that gallery wall, sell that couch, buy more plants!!

  436. I seriously love that light! I totally agree about making your house YOUR HOME, what’s the point of being a home owner if you don’t have the freedom to live how you want(well, to an extent…lol)????

  437. This is great! My old farmhouse needs LOTS of love! Next on the list are curtains in the guest room. 🙂

  438. If I win, I would do something about the guest bedroom. It never feels right in there. I would paint the walls, and replace the dingy yellow light with LED.

  439. I’m so excited for this series! I love that you will doing some videos and can’t wait to see what you have been thinking up! I’m going to be buying my first home soon, so you are very inspiring 🙂 I have a feeling I will be referencing back for my own projects #100Reveal

  440. We are revamping the Grea Room and Dining room and we have lighting changes in the works for each room. Amazing what paint and a change if lighting can do to renew a space!

  441. Gotta try those GE Reveals and improve the lighting situation in our living room. My most pressing project is puppy proofing the railing around the second floor balcony and stairwell, and I’m looking for creative ideas to fill the spaces so the tiny dog doesn’t walk through.

  442. This is going to sound like the ultimate “suck-up,” but I do live in a Chicago loft and we have never had good luck with finding good lighting for our track lighting so I’d spend the gift card on GE light bulbs!

  443. Decorating my living room. Redoing coffee tables and an entertainment center. Need lots of paint and supplies!

  444. We bought a house about 9 months ago and I have just started decorating and the first project that I have started working on is actually updating the light fixtures throughout the house! So the bulbs would be perfect! There are a few different lights I have my eyes on at Home Depot right now… so the $100 would be very helpful to get rid of the awful track lighting that looks like it belongs in an office and not in our kitchen!

  445. Ohhhhh I LOVE a good DIY. Honestly I refer to this blog when talking about diy decorating constantly. Regardless, what a great giveaway. I want to win it!!

  446. If I won, that gift card would pay for fabby new knobs/drawer pulls to give my existing furniture a facelift AND some stunning vanity lights!!

  447. I would love to replace my current kitchen/dining light with my take on a mod pendant! Thanks for the inspiration!

  448. This post and giveaway caught my eye since lighting has always been an issue in my house! I have very little natural light in my home, and I am definitely plagued with those yellow tones with my current lighting! I have a bulb hanging from a cord over my dining room table (I hastily removed the pendant lampshade and haven’t yet found a worthy replacement), and my kitchen could use an updated ceiling light fixture and/or under the cabinet lights to brighten things up! Just discovered your blog today and am enjoying the inspiration from the many amazing projects you have tackled!!

  449. Would love to tackle a built in banquette in my mid century kitchen! Can’t wait to see all the posts!

  450. Mandi, the day I am brave enough to rewire a light… is probably the day you volunteer to make over my home. One of these years I may try it.

  451. Love GE reveals brighter appearance! If Inwin I would LOVE to update my kitchen ceiling fan! Thanks!

  452. We are totally rehauling our guest room to be our daughter’s ‘big girl room’ as we make way for Baby #2 in her nursery 🙂 so lottttssss of projects going on!

  453. Mandy, Mandy Mandy….oh how I just Love you and your blog. My answer to the contest entry question is: drum roll please… I would use it for pur basing storage solutions for my hoarding project purchases. If I don’t get some order to my diamonds in the rough, they may become kinlin in the trash bin from my beloved husband. This would be just what the doctor ordered! #100reveal

  454. This series sounds wonderful! I practically live at home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes finding little bits of things to transform the many fun things I find at flea markets, etc. Would be nice to spend some for a house project for a change!!!

  455. I’ll be making over my new 23′ RV trailer that we’ll be moving into full time in May!

  456. i need a permanent light fixture in my living room. It’s a 1902 house with no lighting!!!

  457. I’m so happy to see the things you develop on your website. If I win, with your help, I will be making over my lacklustre bedroom, including a wall treatment, headboard/footboard, bedside tables, and PLANTS!

  458. Wow! What a serious difference that light bulb makes! That is serious magic right there.
I’d love to win the gift card to help me finish up my bedroom redesign!
    xoxo,
    Jessica

  459. I really need new lighting in my bed room! Something more romantic than the builders basic light fixture.

  460. I will exchange all the bulbs in my house for the reveal ones. Loving the clean light! Also get a new light for my entry way so I can remove the boob light #100reveal

  461. We live five minutes from Home Depot. Handy, but dangerous! Oh, and I have a couple of those…ahem, lights…in our house.

  462. We are finishing our attic. This would be an awesome addition and help!! You’re great!!!

  463. Agreed, I love the reveal lights – they make the white walls in my house truly white, not yellow.

  464. First off, I am so glad I found your blog. Thanks for being so honest and real! I also wanted to say that I love the heart/string thing on your wall. I have been wanting to do that but with a state. I sometimes feel as though my house or rooms are blah too. I would love to do some DIY projects to add little bits of color here and there. I’m also very intrigued by those light bulbs. I need to get some. 🙂

  465. Love the lighting tip. I would like to give my front porch some new curb appeal: paint the railing, add a fun color to the front door, add some tile to the front of the steps and add some spring plants and succlents.

  466. Yes Please ♥ We have been moving into our new home all weekend! There are so many little projects, but my lady closet room is at the top of my list! I love your blog!

  467. I love how doable all of your stuff is. Thanks for keeping it real for us real folks!

  468. I have so many projects on my to do list. But I would probably start with paint…lots and lots of paint!

  469. I am redoing mu whole house, and Home Depo has been my savior. Taking thrift store finds and turning them into works of art with the help of Home Depo supplies is a very satisfying feeling. Hallway lighting is next on the list.

  470. Hello there! Clicking to Ashy’s room reveal made me realise that her coat rack would be perfect for my new space. But it seems that I can’t find the tutorial anywhere on the blog 🙁 When did you post it pretty please? Keep up with the good work!

  471. We just recently installed led recessed lights in our “always too dark” living room and we were amazed at the difference. The goal now is to get led lights all throughout the house. Next up for us is a dingy powder room in need of some brightening up.

  472. oh my goodness- so many entries for the give away!! Here’s one more! I sure could use it! Thanks for a chance!

  473. Can’t believe the difference! I’d totally tackle the boob light in my bedroom and swap it out with a nice bright LED bulb.

  474. This would be so helpful as we come down the home stretch on our master bedroom renovation! We’re doing it all ourselves!

  475. Wow, I’d totally switch out my light bulbs and try to update the exterior of our new rental house with flower boxes, planters, etc.

  476. I had no idea it was so easy to rewire a light. I really need to buy new ceiling fans w/ lights for my 2 bedrooms because there’s no built in lights and the rooms are really dark, plus they’re super boring builder grade and I want something that blends in with the vintage building, so this would definitely help with that. It would be like a 50% off sale!

  477. I’m excited to see your living room transform! I am starting a remodel at my house and the $100 would be an awesome help!

  478. We just bought our first house and are so excited to inject some personality into it. Thanks for the recommendation!

  479. New state, new house, new baby on the way…could certainly put some Home Depot $ to use.

  480. I have an entire cottage up north in Michigan that’s in need of lighting among many other projects. I’m now less afraid to take on the lighting! Thank you!

  481. I want to paint the dining room, if I could just decide on the color. Then we are going to put barn wood on our TV wall in the living room.

  482. I really don’t like the faucet in our main bathroom. A gift certificate would be just the ticket to getting my husband on that project!

  483. I want to tile the wall above my bathroom vanity and install new sconces.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  484. We need a new roof, so if I was lucky enough to win, it would go toward the roofing materials and a nice looking new light bulb. Cute video.

  485. Love the lighting. Trying to update my kitchen. I have the original light fixture from 1970.

  486. I’m closing on a fix er upper next week, there are projects in every room! Excited to get started. 🙂
