Cold Dead Fingers // 9

By Mandi 01/22/2015

Lets kick off January (errr. almost Feburary…) with a round of Cold Dead Fingers shall we? If you are new to the game, dont fret, here is how it goes down. On Instagram when you upload your favorite furniture/thrift store finds, all you have to do is hashtag it #colddeadfingers. Why cold dead fingers? Because it is SO AMAZING that it can only be pried from your cold dead fingers of course! Also who would have thought that I could use the phrase cold dead fingers 5 times in one paragraph? Mad skills.

Up first is this gorgeous lamp that Mandie (great name!) found. She paid $10. Guess what? It’s worth $500.

Tori found a pair of these MCM arm chairs. She’s wondering how she should reupolster them. Chime in below with your thoughts!! Personally I am going to say leather, anyone surprised?

Everything but the print was thrifted. I feel like I need to look for brass candlesticks for my life to be complete again.

  1. For the chairs – if the floral upholstery is in good condition, leaving the cushions as is, but upholstering the body of the chair in a cream upholstery weight linen (or other heavier weave fabric) then adding a geometric or polka dot print pillow could be cool! Or vice versa, cream linen cushions, and leave the body floral.

  2. Some day soon I will become amazing at finding things. Though I have a q…do you take your girls to flea markets/ antique shops etc? I homeschool my kids so they are ALWAYS with me except for when my husband takes them on his days off

    1. Only if I have to. If its a quick stop then its no big deal, but if I am on the hunt and hitting a lot of stores they usually stay home!

  3. You’re kidding me with that couch, right? That must be a typo. I’m just going to tell myself that it was $4000 instead of $40 so I feel better.

  4. Oh! I have one.. I’ll have to snap a picture when I can get it moved to its new spot. I bought a chair for $30, only to take it home and find out that it’s a France & Son Grete Jalk, worth like $1,200. Still getting goosebumps!

  5. I agree the club chairs should be recovered in leather, or maybe vinyl. The Converse Store in SM on 3rd street has 2 awesome personalized club chairs. Both chairs are black vinyl. One is painted with a white skull, and the other has a palm tree with words “Made to Play”. Here is a link to Home Jelly’s blog with a photo of one chair: https://www.homejelly.com/shops-display-repurposed-design-inspiration/
It’s a cool idea. worthy of vintage revivals. 🙂

  6. Thank you for featuring my lamp, Mandi! It’s funny because I noticed this insane spike in page views on my blog, and I was confused because I hadn’t read your blog yet. And then I realized they came from you! Love your GUTS!!!

  7. Not leather!! Worst upholstery c hoice I’ve ever made. Leather is not good for seating until it’s well well worn and broken in…it’s slippery, uncomfortable, hot in summer& makes a lot of noise I’ll never do it again ! U end up sliding off the seat all the time! My pick would be very textured nubbly soft wool in a solid that lets the texture of the fabric and the graphic lines of the chair shine.

  8. Love seeing everyone’s finds. I am an avid thrift-er and really have very few items in my home that are brand new. I am always excited about a good find even if it is not for me (I have become everyones personal shopper.) Just this week I scored an amazing vintage chandelier for $25 and found the same one on 1stdibs for $2,774. Second hand is the way to go!

  9. Mandi I wish I could take you with me to the O&C building at Kennedy Space Center where they built Apollo. Little gems from the 60’s are like Easter eggs everywhere: baby blue Bakelite phones on the wall, vintage couches in the bathroom. It’s a mid-century modern dream.
