Cold Dead Fingers // 8

By Mandi 10/01/2014

As Ashy’s room is coming together, I am FREAKING excited to pull this awesome couch out of the storage unit. I found it at the DI (Utah’s version of Goodwill) for $65. It is the prettiest green velvet and in excellent condition. The skirt is coming off to update it and possibly some new legs are happening.

Shall we take a gander at some of the other amazing #colddeadfingers couches that are causing chronic drool-itis? Yes, lets.

I feel like we need to do some internet stalking and find out where Katie lives so that we can all camp out at the thrift stores that she frequents. This girl is a freaking thrift store all star. Check out the couch. It is amazing.

Fun fact, Lindsey was one of the first internet friends I made while blogging. She is adorable, and so is her new couch.

This yellow tufted beauty would be awesome without the pleated skirt!

  1. To help you with your sourcing you should know Amanda Rydell found that sweet green couch as Katie states in her ig caption.

  2. These couches are all crazy cool! I thrifted a couch/chair set not too long ago with a super sleek and retro shape (and am IN LOVE) but that yellow tufted beauty is making my heart sing!

  3. awesome couches!! I have been staring at my couch lately trying to figure out how to remove the skirt without ruining it (because a certain dog chewed up a big part of it when he was teething…). When you show us that green one in Ashy’s room, maybe you could include some tips on removing couch skirts? 🙂

  4. great couches! I’m a little curious… aren’t you afraid of bed bugs? What steps do you take to clean something like this? I normally stay far away from anything with upholstery when thrifting, but with our meager budget I know that I will have to start going that route when we have a house to fill with furniture.

    1. I am so curious about this as well. I’ve been so freaked out about bedbugs after a friend’s brand new mattress infested her home with them. It was an absolute nightmare!

  5. My heart fluttered when I saw that yellow couch. I seriously wish that my area of Utah County had some better thrift shops!

  6. That last blue set is absolutely what dreams are made of! That’s the sort of thing that makes you want to restyle your home!

  7. GASP! That green tufted couch is everything. It will look so spectacular without the skirt and new legs. Great DCF find!

  8. Ohmahgaaash, that aqua couch with the cool doodad-shapes tufted into it! Googly-eyeing it HARD.

  9. I never even would have thought about the green velvet couch because all I see is ‘what is.’ Thank you SO very much for saying that the skirt will have to go and you will add new legs. NOW I see it!! You are so creative! Thanks for sharing.

  10. I NEED THAT OFF WHITE COUCH!!!! Rip off the skirt, throw some sassy legs on it and it would be perfect for my feont room. If only I didnt have to haul 3 little boys with me I might be able to find cuteness like this 🙂

  11. HoLy Crap! My parents have your SAME couch only in baby blue with white piping. They bought the whole furniture set new when I was a baby in 1981 and just recently got them reupholstered after 33 years and 8 kids. Pretty sure none of my sibs are going to want them after my parents pass…

  12. those are some great finds, so unique! i have a good thrift store couch transformation on instagram! here’s the link… https://instagram.com/p/jKMjjujx3N/ [@ashleyrachelledesign_interiors] it was only $6.99 at a savers in salt lake! better yet, it was my first thrift store furniture purchase, ever! can you say beginners luck?!?!

  13. I love all of these!!! I hate when I find awesome furniture while out thrifting and don’t have enough house to put it all in. My inner hoarder haunts me and I already have 6 chairs that need to be re-done but don’t have anywhere to live once they are re-done.

  14. The last blue set was for sale here locally in a vintage shop, but lavender! My bestie bought the chair for her little girls room.

  15. I can’t wait to see how you update the green couch!!! I am getting a long, gorgeous, yellow, velvet couch from my cousin, and it has the same skirt. Can’t wait! 🙂

  16. https://imgur.com/0eXgifW We just put this beauty in the office, they said in the auction that it was estimated as a 1900-1910 Victorian fainting couch, and we’re keen to restore it slightly. Since you guys are so good at this, you have any pro tips so I don’t accidentally screw up the stuff that makes this piece have all it’s charm?

  17. Oh my gosh those are amazing!! And #colddeadfingers just kills me! I would love to stumble upon a fab vintage find like that green velvety beauty – cannot wait to see what you do with it! XO, D

  18. These couches are amazing! I especially like the second one, green leather with the adorable dog, and the yellow (I agree, it would be perfect without the skirt!).

The yellow one also reminds me of FeltBallRug.com’s yellow rug (https://tinyurl.com/mb4kukf).
I’m loving this color this autumn seasons!

  19. Oh wow, I’m just playing catchup on all my blog readings and saw you posted my sofa. Thanks a bunch! By far all these were awesome finds, I just wish I had a home to put a sofa in every room. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours. Btw.. I want to say I was truly touched by your personal story. Thank you sharing your life moment with us. That was a bold and courageous step and I applaud you. The blessing God has given your family is truly one to rejoice over. May he continue to bless your happy home and family.

  20. Hi,
I love so many of these. Do you ever worry about cleaning this furniture? I know that reupholstered furniture can sometimes have germs. Has this been your experience?
    Thanks,
    Ashley

  21. I so want to be your friend, and wish we lived closer so we could thrift! I hashtagged some of my more recent vintage finds on Instagram with the appropriate tag – not sure if I included prices because I may re-sell stuff at some point. But it was all bought very cheaply – like squeal-in-the-store cheaply. Not pictured? A 40s-ish pink semicircular sofa that is in a sad state of condition and in bad need of rehab at the moment. But it was free, and is my most prized vintage possession. I only hope I am able to find the “before” photo when her transformation is compete. I do love a good thrift score! My yearly wrap-up this year was an entire thrift post. I hope you get a chance to come check the post and/or the hashtagged photos out one of these days 🙂
