Saturday Snaps | 1

By Mandi 09/13/2014

What. Is. Going. On. A post on Saturday?! I know, I am just as shocked as you are.

There are so many amazing and inspiring things on the internet,  I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites.

|| THREE ||  This post from Elle Decor about Beautiful Rooms and Ugly Comments was shared in a lot of my blogging FB groups. It is a really great read.

My favorite part is where the author says:

if you can’t say anything nice, say it in a smart, informed way

I know that I personally am grateful for opinions. I don’t know everything in the world when it comes to DIY and design. Feedback that informs or offers another option for myself and other readers is awesome and only adds value to the project. As long as its respectful.

So just for fun, do you guys want to hear the meanest comment that I have received as of late? (It was on this post)

You bought a beautiful “VINTAGE” leather sofa to “REVIVE” these hideous throw pillows.

In my opinion you should be tied by the hands to a pole with remnants of the PINK CLOTH then given lashes with a whip made from the very leather you desecrated!

Not going to lie, it made my face burn when I read it the first time, but after taking a step back and really looking at it for what it was. I mean, in reality it is a pretty creative albeit offensive solution.

  1. Holy smokes! Someone really said that in the comments?!? I can’t believe some people think it’s okay to be so mean! What ever happened to “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”? I think making the pillows was a great idea and saved at least some of the couch from a landfill

  2. Please bless. Someone did NOT say that. If I knew where the lived I would go skin the very couch they where sitting on.

  3. Wow, can’t believe someone said that. If I don’t like something I usually just don’t comment. I really don’t think anyone deserves to be beaten over a piece of furniture but that is just me. It was a creative comment though. I think it is easy for people to hide behind computers and be mean, or they are just mean and miserable in real life too. Loving the nugget makeover!

  4. How pathetic are some people. If I had a blog, I would have someone read the comments before I saw them. Then, that helper could delete those rude and aggressive posts. Otherwise, I would cry. That person with the rude response is a cyber-bully. There are techniques how to handle cyber-bullying. I never read what to do, though. We love you! Try to wipe that comment from your mind.
That person also went to far in his comments. I am sad you had that. We love you.

    1. Cyber bullying???? Aggressive???? LOL
Anyone who needs total acceptance might be better advised not to get into blogging.
Mandi wears big girl panties and handles such minor stuff as this like an adult.
Good for her. I’d rather make a pair of leather booties to wear on wet ground and still keep my feet dry. And I guess I’d not use a whole sofa skin to do it. Different strokes for different folks.

  5. WOW! I can’t believe someone would be so hateful with their blog-comment. Just hearing your ‘take a step back’ response on how creative you felt their comment was made me laugh out loud and love your blog even more. Keep rocking on Mandi, your true fans LOVE your work!! 🙂

  6. I was too polite to say anything.
And IMO that comment wasn’t mean, but honest, though phrased a bit harshly.
Do your readers think any of us should be praised for EVERYTHING we dream up?
Each of us must have at least one not so wonderful project in our history.
You are running about 595-1 now. How bad is that?

    Lighten up, people…….

    1. MJ I completely agree that different opinions don’t equal right/wrong. I 1000% do not think that everyone should praise all of the things. I actually shared it because I thought it was pretty funny and so that people who don’t blog might relate a little bit better to that article knowing that its not just major sites like Elle Decor that get backlash. I really appreciate you opinion, thanks for stopping by!

  7. I came across your blog via the decor8 site and I love it. I’ll definitely be returning to it again. Well done on your approach to the negative comments!

  8. MJ yeah, no one has to like ALL of a bloggers projects and ideas. But that doesn’t mean they are allowed to be mean about it. It doesn’t cost a penny to be nice. Or at least tactful! Something like “this isn’t my style, but what an interesting idea” or if you don’t like it, then save your self 5 minutes and just don’t comment. This is how I approach reading blogs. Because, really, don’t we all get enough criticism and hurtful words as it is? Let’s end the cycle and be nice and loving to those around us.

  9. Oh girl. I hear ya on the negative comments. 100 at-a-boy’s all go out the window when you get one stinker who has no diarrhea-of-the-mouth filter. I happened to bump in to one of those blogger bashing sites the other day and read some pretty nasty things about myself and blog. Ouch. Talk about going in to such a deep depression that only 10 Swig Cookies could remedy. You rock. You’re the queen sizzle. Glad you could see the humor in the comment and make a funny out of it. Keep on keepin’ on.

  10. FYI – I bought that rug for my son’s bedroom. It is beautiful. HOWEVER, it is very scratchy, and I ended up returning it. It’s not the kind of rug a 3-year old can roll around on and run trucks back and forth across because it’s just not good on bare skin. Would be great in a dining room or adults-only space. Just wanted to throw that out there for anyone who is interested in it.

  11. Well, that was certainly a creative way to diss somebody! I haven’t gotten too many rude comments (thankfully) but the few that I have were really funny like that, too. Once I was doing a few holiday projects with common household items, and I framed a little cardboard coaster from Target. A woman left a comment saying that I wasted money buying the coasters if I was only going to frame one. Uh, I used the rest with our drinks! 🙂 Haha.

  12. I find it so weird/sad that people would read a blog just to make a rude comment. If you don’t like the content don’t read that blog amiright? Wasting your own time at that point. People who make comments like that are not only crappy but also lazy. It is a lot easier to destroy than it is to create, you choose to create and you do it so well. Thanks for writing, please never stop!

  13. Wise words once shared with me: “Your opinion of me is none of my business”. Everyone at one point has been more negative than necessary. As a matter of fact some of the above comments are rather harsh in response. Negativity is all around, seek to understand. Love your blog Mandi and your creativity even if I don’t always like what you like I love that you do your thing!!
