Paint Paint Paint

By Mandi 09/30/2014

Hey guys!! Ashy’s room is in full chaotic makeover mode as we speak (its fine….do you want to bring me some chocolate? Because that would be lovely.)  We talked about the fun retro diamond wall treatment last week, but I wanted to share the other paint jobs that have happened.

The entire room got a coat of my favorite white. At my local Sherwin-Williams they call it High Hide White. It is an ultra (or extra) white base with 3 oz of white pigment added. It is my go to white for everything. In fact, every room I do gets this mix on the walls because I love it that much.

Lets chat about the closet. Closets are not that fun, right? Some might say that they are even a little boring.

Well. Boring isn’t a word in our dictionary anymore.

Remember in Macie’s bedroom when we painted the ceiling? We are taking that effect and moving it inside the closet.

The color that we used was Naval by Sherwin-Williams. If you are looking for an amazing deep navy, good news, your search can come to a stop. It is a really rich dark blue, and doesn’t go too “little boy’”. (Does that make sense to anyone but me?)

Do you know how wonderful it is to have a sister that will paint with you? I think it is the gift this holiday season.

If you follow me on Insta, you got a sneak peek at what we are doing for the closet doors…if you don’t, its ok I’ll tell you anyway (come closer!) DIY Bypass Barn Doors! So stay tuned for that fun tutorial and a whole lot of what not to do (like put 600 feet of rope in the dryer…its “knot” a good idea.)

  1. Naval has been one of my favorites. I’ve only ever used it on furniture though. Looks lovely on the wall!

  2. If you made that light fixture, I’m going to die. Amazing!! I’m so excited for this room reveal.

  3. Love you blogging in real time-& love everything happening in this room!!! Also can’t wait for that light tutorial!!

  4. Loving this! And I love the closet doors! Cannot wait to see it all!

How do you keep the floors from being scraped from the casters? Are my wood floors the only ones that are being killed by my Husbands office chair?

  5. My name is Susan and I am a Lurker. I’ve read your blog for a good long while and although consistently wow’d, have never commented. It’s no longer possible to read your blog without commenting: your incredible design sense and creativity NEVER.CEASE.TO.AMAZE. Thanks for all the inspiration!

  6. I need some more deets on this white paint of yours! If I go to my local SW will they know what the heck I am talking about? Also love Naval – perfect navy. I was in love he first time I opened the can.
Can’t wait to see the tutorial on that light!

  7. Okay, serious question – do you not find that *too* white? Every blog ever always says “find a tinted white” blah blah blah.

I’m moving soon and am planning to paint the whole inside white before I move in (I HATE beige) so I can have a blank slate for projects and have been trying to research what white to use.

    1. Such a good question! I personally don’t, but some for sure will. I would see if you can get a tester and try it before you commit to a whole house job

      1. I’ve been reading SO MUCH about different shades of white, it kills me. Should I pick a slightly creamy white, or a slightly blue white? NO CLUE.

  8. I’m going to guess the wood for the light is some of the flooring? It is seriously one of my favorite lights I’ve seen you do…and ice been following for a LONG time! Amazing!

  9. Mandi, I too can’t seem to find “high hide white” in looking through sherwin-william’s site. I see high reflective white… is that it? Do you prefer a certain sheen? Finally, which line do you use? They have so many to choose from… Emerald, Duration, Super Paint, and the list goes on. THANK YOU!

  10. How does this white compare to the SW Extra White, that is the one I use and I find it a very bright white, which I like but I am always open to a different one?

  11. That shade of navy blue is perfect..loving that sliding door, totally transforms any room… just bumped into your blog, totally loving it!!

  12. Hi -like Susan M above, I too have been a lurker for about a year now. I LOVE your blog and stand in awe of what you achieve, I’m guessing that the wood pieces on the cupboard doors have been salvaged from the doomed cupboard doors in the Nugget?

  13. Digging the copper light fixture! It will look fantastic with the copper shelves. Love your chutzpah, style and posts! You keep me coming back for more; can’t wait to see the finished project.:)

  14. I love the guys at my Sherwin Williams. They are paint magicians. Could you tell us exactly which one of their fabulous paints you use- duration, emerald, ? for the white as well as what sheen. I’m a “flat” paint lover but have been thinking about using “matte”. Right now my walls are a builder pinkish, grayish skin colored beige. gross.

  15. I’m leaving to guess the wood for the light is several of the flooring? It’s seriously one of my favorite lights. I’ve seen you do…and ice was following for a protracted time!

  16. That light is amazing! Have you considered using the round bulbs with chrome on half of them? I think that could look really cooll. This room is turning out so GOOD! Love the way the closet color echoes the Nate Berkus Fabric Treatment. Can’t wait to see what you do next.

  17. When will you be showing us the final reveal of this room. I’ve been waiting for weeks!!!!!

  18. Hello! I always come here to remind myself of what white to buy, I LOVE it! I always wonder though, do you paint your baseboards and trim the same white ?? THANKS!!
