Cold Dead Fingers //6

By Mandi 07/03/2014

You guys. Yesterday I was outside working on The Nugget and my phone beeped (which I normally ignore) but I was seriously looking for an excuse to come inside and die for a minute. It is SO hot right now. Anyways it was an email that made me laugh and gave me a bit of an adrenaline rush of the Cold Dead Fingers sort and I just had to share it with you!

I [deep breath] die. I just made the purchase (with as much drama as one Salvation Army could give me – bottom of the tag missing, announcement over the speaker that someone needs to claim it if they have the ticket bottom, wait 5 minutes for a response and gasp…double check the log book) of a retro black leather sofa with REAL wood trim THAT HAS A HIDE-A-BED. Ok so the hide-a-bed is potentially (most likely) disgusting and I’ll cross that bridge when I get there (no I didn’t check it before I bought it – look at the photos and you’ll understand I needed it ASAP and without distractions).

I bring it home tomorrow which is when my husband finds out I bought it. Sorry for the run-on paragraph, all caps, and parenthesis but I’m still in shock.

  1. A $5.00 Tulip Chair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all the buys are great but that one is REALLY great!

  2. Woohoo! So excited to see my sofa up there! We stopped for celebratory drinks on the way home and I was convinced a Chesterfield-nabber was going to wrangle it out of the truck and make off with it while we were inside. Spoiler alert: apparently the local sofa-snatchers took the night off.

I want EVERYONE’S #colddeadfingers scores so badly! What a killer living room they would all make!

  3. Geez these are amazing finds! Soooo jealous!!! This is the only hashtag I ever remember to search 🙂 I just #colddeadfingers a post this morning featuring my thrifting-obsessed BFF’s Pyrex finds and her fights with old ladies over them 🙂 Not furniture, but colddeadfingers for sure!

  4. Welp I’m good on the kids – I have two but thanks for the offer. I find that they are a ton of work ;P If you lived closer I could see us trading furniture often. I could make a long list of stuff I would beg you for.
The couch is in the car and SUPER heavy. All I can think about is how mattresses gain weight the older they get (I’mgonnapuke) so that thing will be taken out to the curb. My husband’s reaction should be interesting as he hates when I bring home new furniture. I own a prop rental business so I do this quite often, but this one will be for the house and is much more masculine than the yellow Victorian loveseat it will likely replace. Wish me luck!

  5. received my copy of DIY magazine yesterday and lo and behold, look who’s in it. 🙂 enjoyed the article!!!
    Congrats !

  6. Well, you simply rock it with the amazing hide-a-bed feature! I wonder how you came across those amazing finds. I am sure I am going to find something as interesting as this soon. Keep us all posted!

  7. It’s a fact that mattresses become heavier in time and too tough to be moved easily. Anyway, I just love your findings, especially the way you hunt them! And yes, the tulip chair is a really a gem of a furniture piece. I’ll want to get one for my drawing room!

  8. Hi,

I tried to follow the website to the two campaign nightstands. No luck. I couldn’t find them on her website. I have the matching dresser.

  9. “OMG have you read Angela’s blog (the couch girl)? Her updates on her house are hilarious!”
