Macie’s Boho Bedroom Source List

By Mandi 04/10/2014

As I was writing the reveal post for Macie’s bedroom overhaul, I realized just how many elements in the space were DIYed. I have tutorials for all of the projects that will be starting up tomorrow (yay!) but in the mean time, I would love to give you as many deets as possible.

Obviously the paint job was the first major change. I used Sherwin-Williams Emerald in Secret Garden for the ceiling (SW 6181) and Oakmoss for the doors (SW 6180). For the walls I used their Ultra White Base with 4 oz of white pigment added for coverage.

The gold paint that I used to stamp the wall is Sherwin-Williams Metallic Impressions. I was really impressed with how metallic it actually came out.

The tutorial for the leather safari sling bench is here, and the pom pom pillow is here. Would you believe that the llama pillow is made from a sweater I found at Target? The word art pictures are a few of the designs that Jamie and I have been working on and will be avaliable soon for the Cricut Explore!

Lets talk about the rug. It was the first element of the room and pretty much the only thing that wasnt DIYed. I found it on RugsUSA.com, they were running one of their crazy sales and I got it for $100. It is currently sold out but you can be added to a waitlist if you are really obsessed. This one from West Elm is similar.

The bed was a really really really (did I mention really?) simple build that I will be posting a tutorial of soon. The army green wool blanket is from Urban Renewal (a local consignment store), as is the desk chair and one of the pieces of art.

The hex mirror was a thrift store score at $8 that got a blast of white spray paint. The desk received a major facelift. Major. I cant wait for you guys to see the transformation!

Both calendars, the basket, the hanging succulent planters, and the woven wall hanging (ie rug) are from Target.

I am majorly obsessed with the task lamps that I upcycled from Target desk lamps. This is going to be the first tutorial out of the gate so that I can update everyone on the copycat situation, so watch for that tomorrow!

The picture on the left is thrifted and reframed from this beauty,  and trust me the blur from the camera is totally doing that frame some serious favors.

The ivory and gold box is from homegoods, and the brass crab is from a local consignment store, it is actually an ash tray! The top flips up. He is just such a cute fellow.

The tutorial for the Macrame headboard and plywood bed are on their way down the pipeline too. You guys will die when you see how simple the bed was to make.

The black and white pillows are iconically Ikea and the gold pillow is from Homegoods. The beige herringbone throw is from Target. It is kind of weird but they run really small, so I would buy the next size up. Apparently there is no vanity sizing on blankets!

The nightstands are Ikea RAST dressers (I mistankenly said Malm in my reveal post,  but can you keep all those swedish nonsense words straight?!)  I have found a secret to painting things perfectly smooth with no paint lines, no roller marks, nothing. I cant wait to spill!! I also have a tutorial for the burgandy and hot pink vase coming up, and you can find the tutorial for the planter here.

Simple and Inexpensive Shelves vintagerevivals.com

These shelves are amazingly simple, and might have a pretty hilarious story that goes along with them. The Himmeli heart tutorial is happening on the 17th, so mark your calendars! Globe, books, camera, were thrifted. The crystal skull is Halloween at Homegoods (I have been hording it for a long time!)  The cute ampersand art is made from a card that I scored at Target (like a greeting card!)  The wooden hand is from Michael’s (you can find it in the fine art section!)

PHEW. Is that it? If I have missed anything be sure to let me know and I will edit the post!

It was so fun seeing everyone’s reaction to the room! It has been done for a few months and I have looked at the pictures about 5 million times and had kind of gotten to the point where I wasnt even sure if I liked it any more (you know that feeling right?!). But seeing it through your eyes was exactly the boost that I needed so THANK YOU!

      1. punctuation! police?

        Hahahaha!!!!!!!

Thanks for the source list, Mandi. I’m looking forward to some of the tutorials. LOVE your fearless design!

  1. Looks amazing!! I would like to know about the three pendant lights hanging and see a pic of the ceiling and how you hung them. Thanks so much!!!

  2. Mandi, girl, I love your exclamation points! The room is gorgeous and bright, as expected. Loving it, and I’m sure your niece is, too! But more than anything, I’m loving your new photos in the sidebar – particularly the “Mandi suggests” photo. Capital H-E-A-R-T them!

  3. You owned it….you are truly talented! I love how fresh the room feels. You did an AH-mazing job coordinating the fabrics textures into the room. Again, you are a true talent…you have come along way and I am so happy that all your hardworking is paying off…one of the best blogs out there, if I may say so myself!

  4. I showed my daughters (10 and 9) and they both adored it. My older daughter wants to do her next room very similar. Thanks for all the inspiration. I check your blog pretty much daily (I’m not on any “feeder” or anything, I just use good old fashioned bookmarks). Thanks to you (and Emily Henderson), think I’ve finally found “my” taste in decorating. Although you and Emily both paint a lot of walls white. I love the look of white walls for other peoples rooms…but I can’t live with white walls. I need NEED color! And not just in furniture and accessories. So when we redid our living room/kitchen/hallway, we did COLOR! Anyhow, that was a tangent. Sorry!! Anyhow, thanks again for the eye candy. ~ Ruth

  5. soooooooo many tutorials i am excited about from this post. i’m planning on building a bed and yours looks prettier and easier than any of the others i’ve seen. and those task lamps! and the shelves! i’m moving into a new bedroom and i think you might have just solved all my problems.

  6. I’m going to buy the SW gold paint this weekend. I will tell them Mandi sent me. 🙂
Your gold accent wall was just the inspiration I needed!!

  7. I can’t wait for Spring Break- not really, but now I have something fun to do with my girls. Bedroom makeovers with inspiration from your fabulous makeover! The 13 year old is off next week and the 15 year old the following week. (Couldn’t plan a trip since they don’t have off at the same time). I will let you know if I am sane after the two weeks!

  8. I love this room and all you do BECAUSE they are real things that all of us can do with a budget. I have read some blogs that must have a huge budget to do the “thrifty” makeovers. Yours are ready friendly. Thank you. Love the Macrame brings back memories. I think I will do another! Susie

  9. Oh Shut Up! You made the bed too!! I die! I can’t believe it. How do you not have a book? I’m not trying to be offensive to any of the other young bloggers that love their home but seriously, HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE A BOOK DEAL!! Your projects are so original, I don’t see this shicks anywhere. I mean, Target is copying you. For cripes sake, I want to see all your blog posts, projects, DIY instructions etc.. in a book. I mean, your how to paint concrete below, the DIY cube light, I might have seen those elsewhere but you elevate the design. I just love everything you do!!!

  10. I love this room. Thank you for the inspiration in the shelves to flip the brackets upside down so they look suspended instead of supported. Genius. Congratulations on your team making it to the finals in CWTS!!! Looking forward to the Home Decor round.

      1. Sorry! I meant what section of greeting cards…anniversary, birthday, baby, etc. I was there today & there are so many cards!! Thought I might need a clue… 🙂 Thanks!

  11. UUUHB-SESSED with the night stands, can’t wait for the tutorial. Can we know their paint color though in the meantime? I want to be prepared!

  12. I totally get you. I get tired of projects, or because I’ve seen them and the pictures a million times, I assume sharing them more than once people will get tired of it. Ha. But bring on the deets of this room! It’s all so good. And crazy to think you just started doing this a few years ago. What a gift you’ve been given, girl!

  13. Hi Mandi!! This is so amazing!! Where is the world can I get the fabo olive throw?? It’s amazing!

  14. So I’m basically stalking your blog getting inspiration for my new place! I’m renting, so I a-freaking-dore how many renter friendly projects you have! I found you when you did Maskcara’s office makeover and have been following since then! 🙂 Keep up the epic and now I’m determined to make my dressers just a teeny bit more epic thanks to this post! 😀

  15. I love this room! Are you ever going to post how you did the 3 hanging lights?? Looks easy just don’t know how and what you made the circle out of.

  16. Would like to know if you painted the base of the ceiling light fixture. I have some lovely (sarcasm) 1950s fixtures that need to be de-golded. Thanks!

  17. o.m.g. (and dont usually say omg) Mandi, you are so awesome! All of your stuff is my style! i am 12 and i recently moved my bedroom into my basement. i love diy and would like to know if you could do some random retro diy stuff. like a rug, or lamp, or something. also i was wondering if you could do a diy for a doghouse. thank you for the awesomeness! 😉

  18. Hi Mandi! The one thing in the room I’m dying over is the rope wall-hanging thing behind the bead/on the headboard…did I miss where you said you got it or how you made it? I didn’t see anything about it in the post. I NEED this. Please help. 🙂 Thanks girl and you are awesome.

  19. I would love a tutorial for the stamped wall please! I want to do this in my laundry room or sunroom. Probs sunroom so I can get a glistening effect off of the metallic paint. Thx! <3
