An All New Vintage Revivals

By Mandi 09/12/2013

I am so excited! After a long few months of redesigning the blog to make it WAY more user friendly,  we have finally given birth. I say we because this was totally a team effort,  mostly with Amy doing all of the heavy laboring and me saying “You know,  this hospital ice tastes really weird.”

My favorite girl Jamie is the genius behind all of the design. There is something to be said for giving someone creative freedom and just letting them create. Jamie rocks my world with every single project that I see and I am so grateful to have her as one of my friends.

But the best news is that it is finally done!! Feel free to click around,  there are still some bugs, but I would love your feedback (for reals!! Just keep it constructive!)  I really care what you guys think (please note the shiny no truncation…ooooh ahhhh!)

Grateful every single day for you!

Love Your Guts

  1. love the site, mandi! it reflects your style and can’t wait to see more projects. you are an inspiration for every “weird” thing that comes into my head!

  2. Love it!! It’s so you! it’s unique and super easy to find everything:)
    Great job, mandy!

  3. OMG! I don’t know you but I feel like this new look screams you. Colorful but classy. Vintage but fun! You girls did great and I’m in love! 🙂

  4. I love your content. LOVE IT! But I do have some constructive criticism about the new site (and the old). Check this out with your infusion guys, they’ll tell you I’m right:). Your sidebar & particularly your opt-in should be in the top right corner, just under your main navigation. I check you out every now and again from your facebook posts, but I’m not on your list. i should be. i would be if you put the opt-in up there. i actually had to hunt for it. i know i’m not alone. others would subscribe (many more of them) if you put the opt-in where our eyeballs naturally gravitate. its just the way of websites. I talked https://www.thehouseofsmiths.com/ into this a bit. the opt-in isn’t as far up as i’d like it but there is a subscribe button right where the eyeballs fall. so that’s good. why i spend my time giving this unsolicited advice to crafty bloggers is a mystery. i guess i just love your pictures and your projects (and your message!) and I can’t help but have my marketing day job compel me to help you get more subscribers!!! hope this is helpful to you.

    1. Julie thank you so much for taking the time to share this! You are totally right, I need to find a way to work that in! You are a rockstar (and PLEASE keep passing along the friendly suggestions, I know I totally appreciate it!)

  7. Love what i see so far! I really like your “share post” feature at the bottom, it makes it easy to pin – and i love the google plus joke bc i still have no idea how it even works…

  8. Absolutely love the new design! (Except right now, as I’m typing a comment – not digging the font choice/all caps thing). Great Job!

  9. LOVE the new site! Love love love! I have only been reading your blog for a couple weeks…and I think I have read the whole thing already. You have given my style a name and voice now, and so many ideas i dont know where to begin! thank you for being you and real and fearless!

  10. Hey Mandi! I do love your new website! My favorite parts …..your new “VR” logo (Love it!), the random little gem like designs all over your site (i’m obsessed over geodes and crystals!) , and your new pic of your self (how cute!…i secretly wish i could pull off pants like those 🙂 )
    Always a fan!

    1. Thanks lady!! Didnt Jamie do such a great job??! And you can totally pull of pants like that. They are super cheap at H&M and really slimming (which is everyones fave!)

  11. Hey! I LOVE the design! My only suggestion…I would prefer the categories to the right of your new logo (which rocks) as a horizontal list in a bar. I just think that is more familiar and readable. But ya know, it’s YOUR site! 🙂 AnD..hahah love the google plus jab–so funny! Is there a way to make it so that when your readers share comments it’s not all caps?

  12. Hi Mandi, I’m a new follower on google+ and clicked over here to check out the new blog. It looks really neat and i can’t wait to spend more time navigating around. my only “thing” with it {and it just may be my +40 year old -cough- eyes}, but some of the font is reeeally small and light and difficult to read. i know you don’t know me from eve..but i would guess that you’re, like me, trying to attract new followers…i’m guessing this might be an issue for some. love the energy though…and those pants are sweet!

  13. Mandi, do you not know that I have like a million other things to do in life and cannot spend all my time looking around on your awesome new blog? I love “Mandi recommends.”
(My caps lock is not on. Why is this coming out in all caps?)

  14. Its only caps when you are typing. And it is super annoying…I will see if we can get it fixed!

  15. I haven’t been over here in a while and I’m sure glad I stopped in, it looks amazing! I will be sure to visit more often!

  16. u n b e l i e v a b l e. Really crisp and clean, and oh so easy to navigate. hands down one of the *best* sits I’ve seen. Perfection Mandi! Well done.

  17. Love the look of your new site – Fabulous!
I love your posts they are so amazingly inspiring and you are one of my favorite reads!
    Keep ’em coming!

  18. It’s working and I don’t get any bugs. I do think it looks kind of chaotic though. I think it’s due to there not being a ‘real’ banner but all the click options (About, Room reveals, past projects etc)and social media buttons are in the top banner. It looks messy and unprofessional. Same with the way the background color doesn’t extend all the way to the edges at the top and sides. It makes it look like it’s just a free blog. Check Young House Love or BowerPower for examples of how to create more of a flow. Just my thoughts:)

  19. Amazing transformation….. just as all of your transformations are! i would expect nothing less.

    Well done.

  20. Wow, great job, mandi! (Are there capital letters here?)

your new design is so much easier to navigate. The grey background really makes things easier to read. I’m majoring in technical communication and we’re learning all about document design etc, so I appreciae a job well done!

here are some comments you asked for.

    1) It would be nice The social media buttons on top displayed their names when you hovered over the buttons. I believe you only have to give them a title in order for that to happen, just like you can do with images. (titles and descriptions are also good for people who can’t see and who use a program that reads aloud all the components on a page.)

    2) I would try centering the second row of navigation buttons on your top menu and see if it looks more balanced.

    3) In your about page, you write that you knew “nothING” about decorating. The ING is larger, and I wonder if that was intentional or accidental.

    4) The second line in the second item you have there is indented, looks like accidentally.

I love the redesign and the new font! And Lol on the “share with the 4 people on google plus” and your “get to know me” graphic.

  21. Mandi, Your site looks AMAZING!
So happy for you you took the step.

Make sure you maintain the blog, and always keep the wordpress install up to date to the latest version.

  22. The site looks great except the font is too small and light. Hard to read. Maybe it’s just me, but I had to zoom my screen or my eyes were screaming.
