Decorating A Kids Room That You Both Will Like…

By Mandi 04/10/2013

Once upon a time 4 years ago I had a daughter. She is pretty much my favorite thing in the world. She has the personality of one 4 times her age and dances like her dad. So what does this have to do with decorating? Well Sherwin Williams National Painting Week is upon us (it starts on Monday!!) and 14 of the most fantastic bloggers in the blogosphere are sharing with you their color inspired projects all week long!!

The color that I was assigned was Pink. I love pink. And guess who else loves pink? My offspring.

So I took this fun challenge to the extreme (I always seem to do this!) and have spent the last 3 weeks overhauling Dylan’s room.

Let me tell you. Decorating for a child is HARD. It is such a fine line between whimsy and cheesy and I tend to go more mature just to steer clear of that cliff. But I really want Dyl to love her room and so I am doing my best to keep it kid friendly and imagination inducing.

And then there is a small fact that just cannot be overlooked. Dylan has ideas all her own. Just so you can see how adorable (and opinionated) she is we made you a video!!

As you can see, I am in trouble.

I cant wait for you to see the finished product next Friday!!

Hope you guys have a fantastic day!!

Love Your Guts

  2. basically your little dylan & my little zachary need to have an arranged marriage – let’s start planning.

this is such a great idea!! cannot wait to see the reveal – & her next video haha

  3. I don’t know what I love more: her or the fact that she doesn’t like justin bieber. you have one smart and adorable girl there. but then again so is her mom. can’t wait for the reveal. when you going to take that cute family to visit mickey mouse in florida and come help me with my house?? 😉

  4. Oh My Gosh! She is so funny and cute and energetic and smart…probably a handful but sooooo adorable! She IS a smart girl for not wanting any Justin Beaver! And Momma, the video is really awesome!

  5. she is awesome – reminds me of my daughter – i love it! i can relate, as i’m currently trying to make over my kids’ shared bedroom, merging the needs & preferences of a 6 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. eesh – not so easy. i can’t wait to see dylan’s new room. thanks, as always, for the inspiration!

  6. She is so cute! I love how animated and opinionated she is. Can’t wait to see how you pull this off. With those criteria, it is going to be one fantastic room.

  7. hahah she is adorable! Gold…princess….and puppies….good luck! Actually you could probably make all that stuff look awesome!!!

I am working on my 6 year olds room (finally updating from nursery, yikes) and we had an issue over whether the horse clipart on her collage wall should be blue (me) or black(her). She told me only unicorns were blue, but I wanted the clipart blue to go with her room !

  8. Decorating my kids’ rooms the way they want, not the way I want… very hard. Good luck. And also, I love Dylan’s guts. She’s a cutie pie.

  9. Hahahaha1 Oh my goodness! You DO have your work cut out for you! Good luck, and can’t wait to see how your joint effort turns out :-).

  10. You should do monthly “What Would Dylan Do” videos. We will send in kid room decorating dilemmas and she could solve them for us ha ha 😉 My almost 4 year old’s room is in a constant state of disarray. We have no family room so I am struggling with a way to tastefully organize her toys.

  11. Im excited to see the room my daughter has the same exact request.. She is four too. Pink wall, Purple curtains and princesses every where. 🙁

  12. I hope you going to do a video of reveal of the room for Dylan, so we can all see her reaction! She is so cute and I hope you’re up for the challenge. Something is telling me, she means business!:)

  13. That was adorable! Can’t wait to see the big reveal tomorrow!

Any suggestions for how to respond to a 5 year old boy who has insisted on having his bedroom painted “rainbow?”

    🙂

  14. your daughter cracks me up! I’m actually planning a new pink room for my (almost) 4yr old too..bc she says her room isn’t pretty (it’s currently blue) so i am really excited to see what you come up with for some inspiration!

  15. I’m sensing a theme: pink, princess, puppy.

She’s adorable and confident and everything a four year old little girl should be! Can’t wait to see what you do for her!

  16. LOL! Good luck! (I’m sure you can do it – find that perfect place between grown-up and cheesy and it will be amazing, but after that video how could you not say a slightly sarcastic “good luck”)! Be sure to share you’re secrets! Can’t wait to see it!

  18. Totally sharing this video with my daughter. Positive she will think they are destined to be BFFs. Cannot WAIT to see room reveal. We moved into our house in July of 2012 and my little one’s room is yet to be decorated because I cannot get a vision for it. I know you will inspire me!

  20. Totally showing this video to my 4yo daughter and I am positive she will say they are meant to be BFFs (minus the hundreds of miles separating them). We moved into our house in July of last year and I have yet to decorate her room because I cannot get a vision. Don’t even want to know what she should have to say about her room. Cannot WAIT to see your reveal.
