This Is What Project Mode Looks Like at The Gubler’s.

By Mandi 03/08/2013

Wednesday I got another one of THOSE emails. You know the kind that asks how I manage to renovate my house single handedly, feed my family 3 square meals a day,  serve in my church, have a spotless house, AND shower.

Right at this moment I am in full on Project Mode which basically means that getting this project finished becomes the priority and as long as the house is standing and the children are not starving we are good and everything else falls by the wayside. (p.s. that is one sentence for a reason. Say it all in one breath and you will understand the exhaustion.)

So do you guys want to see what its really like at my house right now??

Mac and Cheese from last night still on the counter.

Kitchen tables are NOT for eating, they are for mixing paint.

Camera lens, hammer, paint, Magic Erasers, homework and other loose papers,  and check out those fingerprints. (Now picture this on EVERY flat surface.)

Do you know what a good friend is? A good friend is one that senses the desperation in your voice when you tell her ALL you want in this world is a treat, and because you haven’t been to the store in a few days you are getting your sugar fix on (wait for it.)  Fiber One Bars. And after laughing at the repercussions of that choice brings you a yummy piece of cake. All while not judging and completely understanding why your 4 yr old answered the door in her underwear. Thanks Brooke!! Here is a message in the sawdust for you.

Have a great weekend friends!!

  1. Awesome. It is good to know you are not TOTALLY perfect! This makes me feel better about my house in project mode, it is just the same, but with piles and piles of cleans clothes (I hate folding laundry)….

  2. This is so refreshing! Thanks for keepin’ it real up in heeer! Sorry, that is my White girl taking ghetto b/c she thinks she is funny!

And @Mindi@MyLove2Create. I don’t have an excuse of “project mode” for laundry baskets full of clean clothes. We are a house of laundry folding haters too! LOL!

  3. Thank goodness. I have read a few of these “look at how awful my house looks” blog posts, and I was mad/embarrassed that theirs really didnt look that bad to me, and that mine was way worse.

Not sure you really want this comment, but your hot mess looks real! AND a whole lot like mine, so THANK you. I think the fingerprint TV was the best:)

  4. I love that you share “candid” photos like this! And I also think it’s awesome that even your project leftovers look so dang pretty and amazing! I can’t wait to see the finished product, especially if the leftover scraps can look so beautiful!
PS: Cap’n Crunch is my FAVORITE! 🙂

  5. Ok that makes me smile. My current view of our living room looks all neat and tidy… but if I were actually at the front door it would be a different picture. stacks of paper/mail close to 12 inches deep/tall, dining room table covered in 1/2 bushel boxes, virtually all my shoes in the living room (not sure why… and we won’t go there…), and the list goes on. but i know it’ll be cleared up here soon. everyone starts coming home from school in the next hour and then it will be off to the “races” (not literally… just a ton of running errands, transporting non-driving teens, etc.)

Have a great weekend! Hope you enjoyed your slice of cake!!

  6. Haha! Sometimes I feel like the only one who has to choose between a clean, functioning home and getting work done. My house was cleaner when I wasn’t etsy-ing and blogging, when I was away from home 13 hours per day! So glad to find a sister in common!

  7. The same thing happens to me! And I also have a Brooke who is saving my a** on a regular basis. She will randomly watch my kids so I can cram Craigslist finds in my CRV without car seats and spend an entire Summer afternoon helping me paint a dining table!

  8. THIS IS MY LIFE!!! The only reason I clean is when people are coming over, because I’m terrified that they will find out that I really live like a slob when I’m in Project Mode, which is basically all the time.

PS. Brooke is awesome, she and I used to be neighbors.

  9. Yeah, it’s nice to see that you’re a real person like we all are. It’s reassuring to me at least that my being messy all the time (during projects) is normal. Now I just need to figure out how to make things look as pretty as you do when you’re finished with a project! 😛

  10. haha! I got one of those comments the other day, and when I read it my child was screaming his head off because he didn’t want to take a nap, I was failing miserably at an attempt to make a new recipe, the entire house was a disaster, and our bathroom didn’t have cabinet doors and still had painters tape up even though we’d finished painting two weeks ago. I just had to laugh!

  11. You go, girl. Pretty mantles and finely painted furniture is all well and good, but the comfort and mess that comes with kids is the most beautiful accessory a house can hold. Good for you for highlighting it.

  12. I totally get it because that’s how it is at my house.

But even on days where I have my crap together, the kids still run around in their underwear…just because they love it!
I probably would still do that too if I could LOL. I guess I could but that’s just not a pretty picture anymore!

  13. You are my favorite, and we’ve never even met! haha. I LOVE and I meaan LOVE in double caps the rubber spatula used for stirring the paint. That is my favorite part of this post and one reason you are one of my favorite bloggers 🙂 keepin it real!

  14. It is nice to see that I am not the only one cleaning up dinner the next morning. All because I worked on a craft project instead of cleaning.

LOL…I was giggling at the cereal bag. I have a 12 year old who still does this. I have gotten her to at least put the cereal into a bowl these days.
