FFA Challenge #4: Freaktastic Furniture and a Peek At My New Couch

By Mandi 05/17/2012

Fearlessly Finding Awesome is a just for fun club all about discovering your personal décor style not following everyone else’s. These posts are challenges that you can take to create magic in your home.

Oh yes. Freaktastic Furniture. Now everyone’s freaktastic is  a little different. When I first started DIYing my freaktastic was very mild and has since progressed to full on mayhem.

So.

For this FFA challenge I want you to buy a piece of furniture for your house that freaks you out just a little. Not like “This is the ugliest thing I have ever seen but Mandi says I should push myself.” kind of freaky, more like “This is cool…but I will put it back because I don’t know if I could pull it off…but it might look really cool painted _________…no its freakin me out a little…..ok ok I will do it.” kind of freaky.

And by buy a piece of furniture I don’t mean spend lots of money ok? Everyone’s budget is different and everyone’s thrift stores/craigslist is different but buy something cheap ok?

Want to see a peek at my freaktastic piece?

Not may things make me uncomfortable when it comes to furniture or home décor. But if you recall this post from a few weeks ago about my couch situation you will remember that its made me a little stressed.

But I found one.

And its going to be here this weekend.

And I am SO excited I might not be able to sleep tonight.

So thank you to everyone who reassured me that it was ok to buy something a little scary. And if Court hates it I am blaming all of you.

Ok. Enough talk.

Here is a preview of my brand new (to me) Orange Velvet Couch. (sorry the pic is small, its low res)

I am painting my living room like a mad woman so that its ready for when the couch comes and I cant wait to tell you all about it!!

  1. Hey Mandi,
I’m currently working on selling my house and moving into a condo, so instead of buying, I linked up a new piece I made about a month ago. It was sort of a…”well, this is weird, but I’m going for it”, piece. Hope that’s ok.

  2. Oh, I love that couch and fell in love with it when I saw it on the Danish Mama. Too bad my husband hates orange. It is fabulous!

  3. Oh…I don’t find that sofa scary at all…it is freaking fantastic! I can just imagine a room around it. What a great find! I think it is fun to go out of your comfort zone and do something wild. Wish I had the money to participate in this. It would be so fun…but I am all tapped out at the moment.

  4. I used to own a 9 ft. long rust coloured, velvet couch with a similar back. It was amazing and truly made the room. It has been passed on to another family now, but it will probably forever remain one of my favourite pieces ever! Embrace the orange velvet love!!
On another note, my heart is just broken for your friend’s family. I can not even begin to understand that type of loss. And the road ahead, a single daddy with a newborn. Sheesh…praying for miraculous healing and strength for that man and his kiddos.

  5. That orange couch is couchstastic! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I linked up 2 recently done projects–both were equally ugly and freakish prior to my revamps. Thanks!

  6. I can’t wait to see your new living room! I have a mini living room redo in the works. Orange is a color that I’m scared of! I love it though! I’d only be brave enough to use it in small doses, like an accent color. /sigh

  7. That third link is definitely a sale listing and has nothing to do with the challenge. Boo. I was excited about a lamp makeover.

  8. lovin’ the couch.. wondering if it counts that the actual piece isn’t “scary” but the thrift store where it was acquired is really scary. (?)

  9. dude. I just BARELY posted about the FFA challenge #3!!!! I am noticing that I am TWO behind now??? I guess I can step it up and get them done tomorrow! I have a feeling #6 will be here any minute!!! P.S. I am REALLY getting stuff done! I think the club is a gr8 idea for procrastinators like me:)
