Happy Friday!!
So I have a fun question for everyone today!!
See this cute green dresser?

I am working on redoing Dylan’s room at the moment (ok, for the last month or so) and I have this cute little dresser that I got for FREE! It was on the side of the road and my friend picked it up for me!
I LOVE the style of it and have some really great ring knobs that I am going to put on it. I want it to look way more modern than it does right now. That being said, I really REALLY want to paint it white.
I am loving white modern stuff right now. I am using these thrifted placemats and they are SUPER colorful…so I am wondering if I should use a color in them for the little dresser.

Which color would you choose?

The walls are going to be mostly white. All of the other elements are white, gold, and natural wood tones. I have about a million different things I want to do but I want to know what YOU would do!
Aaaaaaannnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddd go!
Love Your Guts, Mandi
The orange in the stem/trunk that the birds are sitting on!
ReplyDeleteI love the white but I think the orange in the branch would be SOOO cute!! Or the blue = adorable!! I cant wait to see what you do with it!!
ReplyDeleteOMBRE. And in shades of orange. Or green.

The very light blue in between the birds feathers...the other blue is toooo blue
ReplyDeleteI like the blue. But truthfully, I love the little dresser the way it is because I am such a green fan.
ReplyDeletePaint them white but paint hot pink along the inside edges for a little fun. Why not? But with gold.. maybe better go with a strong blue that's seen in the art.
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow/ Orange leaf? in the bottom left hand corner near the pink feathers.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you painted the dresser white and did some kind of striping whether blue or orange?
Blue with maybe white drawers and the black nobs. Or Just black.
ReplyDeletehigh gloss pink with gold hardware
ReplyDeleteorange for sure!!
ReplyDeleteI think the light orange/yellow color would be so cheerful!
ReplyDeleteI would use the pinks from the tail and do ombre drawers with a white base/surround. So the only thing colored would be the front of the drawers.
ReplyDeleteooh, I LOVE that idea!!
DeleteFabulous!
DeleteORANGE!!!
ReplyDeleteOOOOOH with Jadeite knobs!
DeleteToo gaudy? It's part of my charm :)
I would go with orange, it such a fun and bright colour
ReplyDeleteI just tweeted you about this, but I have the same hand painted bird painting (it's bigger than a placemat would be and not laminated) that I thrifted! All of the birds are blue, is there any markings on yours? I have been trying to find out who painted them. I found another in an Etsy shop that was in Ohio (same as me) so I assumed they were local, but I guess not!
ReplyDeleteI really like the blue. It's pretty!
ReplyDeletei was going to say the tuquise/blue.i think it would make a good choise that would pop
Deleteorange! I LOVE me some orange! Which means for once in my life I am a trend setter since it is one of the HOT colors for this year! (I figure you can always change it if you don't like it!)
ReplyDeletepaint it the BRIGHT pink color with some very modern knobs!!
ReplyDeleteI would totally use the purple in the wings of the top bird! White walls, gold and natural wood, plus a little punch-o-purple? YEAH, BABY! I can't wait to see all the other fun little tid-bits you have going on in there!
ReplyDeleteI would go TEAL any day of the week! (My poison of choice)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do!
Nat :)

blue or coral/pink
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout the pinkish shade of the bottom bird? White knobs?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking orange until I saw the high gloss pink with gold comment. I agree with Stephanie. That would be fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with white as a first choice, followed by the blue.
ReplyDeleteI like the orange, it will really pop
ReplyDeleteI like the blue, but can picture you doing something fabulous with the orange!
ReplyDeleteOrange!
ReplyDeletehot pink. for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a combo of orange and oil rubbed bronze (ORB)? Maybe the body in ORB and drawers in orange? All of the ideas above are fab!
ReplyDeletepaint it hot pink!
ReplyDeleteI would go with the golden yellow or the blue, it would pop on the white walls! Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeletei started thinking i would go with the blue, but i think i like that marigold-ish kinda color, especially with wood tones. but its so cute being green im sure you have a plan to replace it! have a great weekend mandi!
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow-orange color, too.
ReplyDeleteFor sure the orange-red color of the branch!
ReplyDeleteFirst I thought orange, but when I really looked at the orange in the placemat, I'm thinking that orange is too brown-orange. I prefer a brighter orange. If you can't go brighter orange and have it coordinate then I would choose the brighter blue. I think it will be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI would do ombre orange shades on the drawers, darkest on the bottom drawer and the outside housing of the drawers in white. Or, I would do all white, and then add a little color in stencil form to the front. I gravitate to blue, but orange is popular right now. And you will probably redo it before you get sick of it anyway :0) I think orange is nice for a change though. And especially since it is in a bedroom you won't feel like you have to start adding orange all over the house. I would choose a shade that is midway between the trunk of the tree and the lower birds coral orange head (on the larger picture). I have a can of Mesa Sunset if you want it.
ReplyDeleteI really like that blue color!
ReplyDeletenoooo....keep it green, i love it!
ReplyDeleteI think if you are going to paint it a color you should choose the burnt orange. It would look so fabulous with the gold and natural wood tones you mentioned!
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to put some metallic in it; maybe as a stenciled design on the drawers. (Not sure what color your pulls are.) I would probably pick a bronze or gold to pick up on the warm hues in the images. You could also do a warm yellow or orange for the entire stand. A bold, metallic stenciled design would be very modern!
ReplyDeleteAsk your little girl! She might have the perfect plan for it :)
ReplyDeleteI would choose the dark orange fo sho!
ReplyDeleteOk. I'm drawn to the blue but that's because it's my fave color but truthfully, I think ORANGE, the darker stem orange.
ReplyDeleteI love the gold/mustard color against gray. I've seen it in many rooms and it adds an interesting pop but is modern, and classic with the gray combination--if you are keeping it against the gray wall. Yes, I too like the clean, crips look of white. You know what you're doing, and we'll just get to see the wonderful AFTER you come up with!! Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI would do the blue or the bright yellow in a shiny finish. Love your ideas so far! Can't wait to see the finished room.
ReplyDeleteorange
ReplyDeleteThe bright green of the leaves is delightful, and super not obvious. Plus it all kinds of pretty with brassy gold stuff. You make me itch to make stuff over.
ReplyDeleteI am loving tangerine right now. ...and so is Pantone. You can't lose.
ReplyDeleteI voted orange, but then I also think gray would be cool, depends if you need a pop of color where you are putting it or if you need it to be quite and do the color on top!
ReplyDeleteOooo, I'm always a sucker for white, and I like how if you used that it would pick up on those very few bits of white in the placemats. That being said though, if I was going to use a color from the placemats, I think I'd go with that super bright pink one (it's on a flower and one of the birds). I love it!
ReplyDeleteThose placemats are awesome!!
Ok, this is going to sound strange, but I would paint it super glossy orange (as many others have suggested). But! I would remove the handles completely (if you can work the drawers without them) and either paint the drawer fronts white or cover them in a shiny white fabric like vinyl, faux leather, or faux croc. The leg shape really lends itself to a 70's take on modern which could go well with the placemat artwork. Whatever you do will be am-ahh-zing, I'm positive. ;)
ReplyDeleteI see tyhree drawers and three top-note colours on your placemats. Blue/ Red/ Yellow :)
ReplyDeleteTurquoise or orange would look spectacular
ReplyDeleteI'm joining the orange camp. But you really can't go wrong on this piece.
ReplyDeleteI'm tied between the idea of painting just the drawers white and the outer shell in aqua or just the drawers in aqua and the outer shell in white :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do with it!
I think I'd like to see the shell of it white, and the drawers the lighter yellow-orange of the bird, not the darker orange of the branch. Love the placemats, BTW! Regardless of what color you choose, I'd love to see it in a high gloss finish. Looking forward to seeing what you choose.
ReplyDeleteI vote the orange!!
ReplyDeleteAqua or orange-
ReplyDeletetotally high gloss pink with gold hard wear! I love that idea!
ReplyDeleteI would go with the orange or the hot pinky color....
ReplyDeleteda blue boss da blue boss
ReplyDeletefuchsia.
ReplyDeletewell the orange of course.
ReplyDeleteOk, now I feel predictable after seeing the other responses but I'd definitely go with the orange!
ReplyDeleteI say orange, just because every boy likes orange!! I am going to paint desk in my sons room orange :)
ReplyDeleteIf the room is going to be gold and wood tones, I would do the color of the paper that the birds are printed/painted on. And since it's not a solid color, I would try some sort of treatment to get that marbled brown effect just like the paper.
ReplyDeleteOr, since the overwhelming answer seems to be orange, you could try a very sublte orange. I feel using the orange in the pictures would be way to overwhelming for a white, gold, wood palate.
I want those prints!!! Seriously...if you don't want them all, I will purchase them. :)
ReplyDeleteFrame it in white (always go with your first gut instinct :-D ) then do the drawers in the "it" color for 2012 - Pantone 17-1463 Tangerine Tango
ReplyDeleteBlue!
ReplyDeleteWhat about an ombre of the turquoise? Start dark at the bottom and work your way up to very light blue?
ReplyDeleteKim@reposhture.blogspot.com
I would paint it gold with white knobs! :) :) Maybe also outline the drawers and edges in white!
ReplyDeletehttp://munchtalk.blogspot.com/
I love it just as it is! But if you want to change it, I would go with fuchsia pink.
ReplyDeleteI would keep it green like the color of the pillows. If you are keeping the bedding.
ReplyDeleteI would add a lucite front to them and then add retro pulls. Can I tell you I love your blog and you. You are just too cute and full of spunk!!
White seems fine to me. Especially since it's for a boy. Then you could add some campaign type hardware to it to boy it up even more. If the room will be white any of those colors would work, of course.
ReplyDeleteI think that white would look nice, but being that your palette is going to be mostly white, a pop of color would be cool for the dresser. Does Dylan like pink? The two pinks - either the dark rosy one, or the lighter one, in the wings of the bird on the bottom of the picture would both work. 'Can't wait to see what you do!!!
ReplyDeleteThe 1st color that popped was the turquoise, The 2nd was the Orange also the red pink but as this is a BOY's room That might not go over well.
ReplyDeleteLove the prints.
I did read somewhere that they turned the fabric onto paper by printing it then decoupaged it TO the door of a dresser .
Have a good one ann/alba
Hey Alba!
DeleteDylan is actually a girl! Hahaha I guess I should have clarified that small detail! Thanks for your comment!
Love your guts
mandi
HOT PINK! And here's my reasoning... if you're going to keep the green on the bedding, green and pink are very complimentary. The blue in the birds is already very noticeable and will stand out on it's own. White might be a little overkill or boring since there's already lots of white in the room (and it sounds like there's going to be more). Orange is very trendy (but since you change things up frequently you are at full liberty to go with the trends:) but might give off a 70's vibe with the gold and natural wood accents. So again, my vote is hot pink!
ReplyDeleteAll I could think about when I saw those placements is that they look so much like this rug from urban outfitters -http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=23545965 So, funky - what a find! :)
ReplyDeleteI would do a pink like the pink flower with the blue center and then match that blue to glaze it. Good luck! Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI showed this to my 8 year old daughter and asked her what color she would pick. She said pink or orange. I agree with her. Can't wait to see what it will look like.
ReplyDeleteThis is just me, but I think that the blues and reds would look super pretty with the gold and white that you are already doing. And I love blue and red together anyway. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you do! It will be amazing no doubt! xoxo
ReplyDeleteTangerine
ReplyDeleteSo many super good choices - those place mats are the bomb! Love the thought of that gorgeous turquoise with gold and white. Princess colors for sure, but should last a while as it's not too "kiddie".
ReplyDeleteI love the bright coral of the tree. I think it would really pop out from the white walls.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very friendly color and very suited for a boy's room. You would really be trending since the Pantone Color of the Year is "Mango ?". Can't remember the second word but the color is great!
I would go for one of the two orange colors. I love the light orange (birds head), but if you have gold incorporated then maybe the darker color would work best. I can't wait to see the finished dresser!
ReplyDeletewww.createyourdecor.blogspot.com
Those are Mexican bark paintings you've got. I'm from the border and would recognize those anywhere, actually have some in a drawer I've never found a place for. I wonder if you could get them out of the placemats without killing them.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I would keep it all white, but that's just me. If you really wanted to add color I would love to dip the legs in that orange.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow orange of the top birds head! Loooove!
ReplyDeleteI'd go for the gold!
ReplyDeleteI love that rich orange-y yellow tone in the top centre mat.
ReplyDeleteOooh I like the yellow orange in the left bird's body!
ReplyDeleteBright kelly green or the red/orange of the tree.... It's hard without seeing everything else, but that's what I'd do!!
ReplyDeleteI would pull the really bright blue and use it just on the drawer fronts and paint the rest of the dresser white. Add your knobs and done.
