What a busy busy week. For those of you who started reading Vintage Revivals since the Epic Room Makeover announcement lets do a quick recap.
I came up with the idea to have a giveaway contest sponsored by products that I truly love and go to someones house (anywhere in the US) for a free room makeover. Vintage Revivals style.
![]()
After 3 rounds of elimination the winner was Jessica Rowan. The funny thing is that she lives about 20 minutes from where my parents live in Salt Lake. Crazy right?
This is the room that Jessica submitted.

Her cluttery, not awesome in the least master bedroom.
And this is what it looks like now.

The biggest complaint that she had was with her closet doors. There were none.

So in all manner of epicness I created this freakishly awesome solution.
See this wall of board and batten?

Well… its sort of magic.

Both sides slide open. Sweet right? This is probably one of my most favorite projects ever and the best part is that it was made using inexpensive things that you can find at any Home Depot.
This corner was super crowded with an armoire before:
And after:

Are you DYING over that stencil? It is Endless Moorish Circles from Royal Design Studio. Amazing right?
And the paint colors are PERFECT. The gray is Empire State and the white is Ultra White both from Dutch Boy. If you are looking for the perfect gray I would bet my first born that you will love this one.

Recognize that cute chair?

I totally stole the board and batten pattern from one of my BBFF’s Emily @ Décor Chick. Love that girl.
The chandy started out like this:

I used hanging garden baskets to make the cage around it and spray painted it with Krylon’s Metallic Brass.

I wish I could say that I came up with this BRILLIANT idea on my own but alas I stole it from the amazing Shannon at Anythingology.

Do you remember the post I did about the perfect dresser that got away?
Well Jessica had one just like it except it was red. Its sort of the Makeover Miracle.
It got a coat of Krylon Sun Yellow (which is the most perfect yellow on the planet.) And its better than the one that got away. Boom.

The headboard was an old door that Jessica had.

We chopped off about a foot and 1/2 and added crown molding and painted it with Krylon Emerald Green. The panels inside are covered with Ikea fabric and I put nailhead trim along the insides.

Hmmm lets see what else was there?
Oh yes the Roman Numeral art. MMVI stands for 2006 which is the year Jessica and her husband Allan were married.
I used a few different colors of watered down Decoart and my Purdy brush to get this weathered finish. I wanted it to look a little more rough than mine.

The Ikea rug had a really simple update with Americana acrylic paint. Which has a super bright concentrated color, ideal for something like this rug.

Now don’t get all crazy when I tell you this but all of the glazing was done with Decoart’s Antiquing Medium…not RL faux glaze. There was just a little bit on the mirror, headboard, and on the end table. I love that you can custom mix the perfect amount with is. It was also a lot thicker than RL’s which I loved.

If you are a newbie glazer give this a try. $3.00 is not as big of a commitment as $20 for a pint of regular glaze.
Also thanks to Purdy I am not against cutting in anymore!! Holla my hubs is going to be so happy!! Now I might actually go and finish the trim in Dylan’s room…

Here are a few more token shots.

First I need to thank my amazing sponsors for going out on a limb for me. This is the first giveaway of its kind in blogland and they put a lot of trust in me to pull this off. If you are onboard for another makeover giveaway please take a few seconds and leave them a message telling them thank you.

Second I need to thank my wonderful friends who helped me SOOO much. You know how they say you should have a doctor and a lawyer etc in your circle? Well for a DIYer it’s a little different.
Amy @ Ameroonie Designs is my resident mathmetician. I told her what I wanted the board and batten to look like and she told me how many boards, what distance apart, you know all the hard mathy stuff.
Tam @ Sew Dang Cute let me adopt her Silhouette a few times so I didn’t have to bring mine up. Even super late on Sunday night we got to hang while it was doing its magic. And she just had her baby 12 hours ago so she deserves a plate of cookies x 3.
Mandi @ Tidbits from the Tremaynes is just one of the most amazing people I have ever made friends with. On top of helping us cut the crown molding for the headboard she was my rock and voice of reason through all of this. I knew that regardless of my question she could help me figure out the answer.
And so so many others that came and helped paint and install and problem solve!
Stay tuned cause I am taking you guys on a field trip to an upholstery workshop soon…
Tutorials for all of these projects will be posted over the next few weeks. If you have any questions you can either email me or leave it in the comments (just make sure you have your email linked to your profile so I can respond)
This contest has been a crazy fun ride, it pushed me harder than I have ever been pushed. I learned a lot about myself and I cant wait to meet more of you in the next round!!

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely amazing!! I love the webbing you used on the chair! The stencil rocks! That rug in gorg!! I could go on and on!! Great job girl!!
ReplyDeletei'm so sad. For some reason I can't see any of the after pictures... only the befores. I'll have to fix whatever the problem is, asap!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great upgrade! Love all the techniques and details, and that little pillow tucked under the nightstand is lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. That is the most amazing room I have ever seen. You did a fantastic job. I can't even pick a favorite thing.
ReplyDeleteMandi,
ReplyDeleteEvery single thing in this room is amazing! You must have worked soooo hard on it! I love the closet doors, haven't seen b&b done on that before! Great thinking! Secondly, where did you get that gorgeous bed spread? I love it and want one just like it!
Beautiful job Mandi!
Susan @ homeroad
Wow, Mandi!!! It is STUNNING! I love the colors and how you pulled everything together. {high fives} :)
ReplyDeleteHOLY MAKEOVER!!!!!!! I am in awe!!! You have THE best ideas! I love it all!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteit's amazing!!! Wow. I think the lamps are my favorite part! Such fun whimsical touches.
ReplyDeleteUmmm... so yeah, super huge applause, standing ovation style! L.O.V.E. it. That was amazing. Thanks for the inspiration, I hope there will be some tutorials!
ReplyDeleteMandi ~
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely amazing!!!
I just love it!!
I am looking forward to more posts on it ~
xoxo
Lori
Love love love!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! It's fun and a great mix of feminine and masculine. I think my favorite thing is the closet doors because it's so clever and practical. I looked at the before pic and thought "did you have to cut out the middle portion of wall?" but then saw that you avoided that by simply putting the railing in front. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteYou are so inspiring! You make me look at stuff on a whole new level. I have an idea for you. What if you decorate a room in a rental? Something that structurally can't be altered or tweaked much? I'd love to see what clever things you come up with.
ReplyDeleteYou're pretty much a rock star!! Dang girl. You were busy. EVERYTHING turned out freakishly awesome but the board and batten, for me, takes it over the top. In.credible job.
ReplyDeleteWow. Just....wow. My favorite thing of all? The closet doors. Oh wait...maybe it's the chandelier! Oh, who knows! You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteOH. MY. GOSH. Are you kidding me??? That doesn't even look like the same room!!! Mandi, you are amazing...wonderful wonderful job. Me=jealous...
ReplyDeleteMandi....this is AMAZING!! I mean truly stunning. The lamps??? Are you kidding me? FAB! As in I must have them....
ReplyDeleteHoly, ever-lovin' make-over! Stunning, just stunning. You have a very long and successful career ahead of you. Congratulations on a beautiful job
ReplyDeleteLove the bedspread!! Were did it come from? It all looks good. I really like the mirror too. What made you pick those colors?
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm a huge fan of board and batten, it just makes everything have so much character, and I like that you did it over the closet, that was a really good idea. My other fav thing is probably the headboard and that miracle of a chair you made! Just fabulous!! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteYou did such a great job! You should really be proud of yourself! Your talents never cease to amaze me! What a beautiful room! I love the board and batten doors! I think we might need a tutorial on that!
ReplyDeleteMandi, You are a design rockstar! I love it all! It's unique and beautiful. Great colors. Lucky lady to have a new bedroom. Awesome end to a fun contest.
ReplyDeleteThat room is the single most AWESOME room makeover I have seen! My jaw just kept dropping lower and lower. I want to go start on my Master bedroom NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteExcept wait, I'm not you...shoot!
Deb
I'll buy you a ticket if you'll come do me next. :) Wow! It looks like it is out of a magazine and I love the touch of whimsy with the his and hers lamps. Fan-Freaking-Tastic!
ReplyDeleteJessica! Your room is wow. Mandi - as always, you don't disappoint :) I love the colour scheme. It's fun and not contrived or hard to live in. It's bright and funny, kinda like your contest winner!
ReplyDeleteKudos to your sponsors. They obviously made it happen for you and all your blogging lovelies who came out of the *woodwork* to help, style, build and plan for you.
Amazing initiative taken to get this underway and done. Gorgeous result. Cannot wait for some of the tutorials.
WOW!!! That is amazing!! I love it!! yet it makes me jealous/sad lol because I can only imagine what you could have done in my living room!! lol
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE the transformation!! You are AMAZING!
This is something!!!! I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteFreakin' awesome girl!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it!!!! Fantastic job! I love seeing all the thrifty finds and how you make them new again. Definitely has been inspiring me lately to not have to have everything "new." I can take something old, personalize it, and make it something no one else is gonna have. So many make overs are just too much $$$$$$ wasted on crap that everyone else is going to have. And I could imagine keeping the room the same for many years-its very inviting and bright!
ReplyDeleteWay to Go! I don't know what I love best- so many great details and interesting layers. The room is AAAAAmazing!
ReplyDelete:) crafty texas girls
holy CRAP!! i seriously gasped when i saw the new room! A-MAZ-ING! holy cow! i love everything about it and basically want to copy it for my room. also, thanks to your sponsers! how awesome are they?? i hope they love it enough to have you do another one and i hope i win! my whole house needs help! okay. one more time. the room is amazing! i love love it!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! I can't believe how much lighter and brighter the whole room looks. What a great job! Can't wait to see some of the tutorials.
ReplyDeleteOH WOW!!!! I knew it would be fab, but this is ultra-fab!!! It looks way better than any of those room makeover shows on TV ever look, that's for sure. I'm in complete awe over your awesomeness.
ReplyDeleteFor Reals.
Dear Mandi,
ReplyDeleteI love you and you are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!! Everything turned out so awesome and I love your little touches that are distinctly craptastic! So happy the headboard turned out for you. Seriously, it all looks great!

What an amazing before and after!! The new room looks fabulous; so much brighter and very chic! I love what you did with the room and am inspired by your creativity. Great job, Mandi!!

ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome! Great job! I love so many things but I think my faves are the wall behind the headboard and the great little detail on the rug. Oh, and the yellow dresser make over, chair and chandelier. Okay so maybe I just love all of it. Great job!

ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I love everything about the room, which is funny, because if I look at individual pieces it's not my taste, but overall the room is PERFECTION. Makes me rethink a few things that I'm just okay with in my own house and how they might fit in a finished room...
ReplyDeleteSeriously, so amazing!
Thank you to all your sponsors. Definitely an act of trust!
WOW!!! I knew you had talent but man, even knowing how much talent you have, I was still blown away! This room is amazing. You so need your own show or something. And I'm super curious about how you re-did that chair.

ReplyDeleteWOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!! What a TRANSFORMATION!! =) BeAuTiFuL!!! Every inch! Such talen you have dear!
ReplyDeleteHOLY MOLY! This is absolutely incredible!! That is one lucky girl! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteWow! You must be exhausted. It doesn't look like there is one thing in that room that hasn't been altered by you guys. It looks fab!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! So bright and colorful. The only request for the next makeover (as I KNOW you will do another one!) would be to tell us how you accommodated all of her necessities. For example, you got rid of of storage (ie dressers) that were in the room -- where did the stuff that was in them go? Was most of it unneeded, or will she end up piling things in the corners or on the chair as time goes on? And where is her workout calendar now? You know, we all have things in bad places, but it's nice to know that everything that was needed has been taken into consideration. That's the one thing that bothers me about decorating shows....they just ignore that the person had things there for a reason and then just toss them. And you just know that those things make it back into the room and now it doesn't look great anymore :(
ReplyDeleteThat aside -- you did an amazing job on this room and I'm sure she loves it/you!
It looks SO GOOD! I am all kinds of jealous. I LOVE the fabric in the head board and the chair make over.
ReplyDeleteSo first I was going to say that I LOVED the stenciled wall...and then I kept reading and decided I may love the awesome light fixture more...and then I changed my mind and wanted to comment that I loved the closet awesomeness...and then I decided I definitely loved the cute chair. So, really, this room is simply amazing and that's all there is to it!
ReplyDeleteWanna have another contest, pick me, and makeover my living room?

Are you kidding me with this room?! It's simply too much goodness in one space. I can hardly stand it! Okay, that chandelier is one of the most ingenious things I've ever seen. When I saw it in the very first picture, I seriously thought it was a major splurge item for the room. I might have to copy this idea, because it just so happens that I have that exact "before" chandelier in storage just waiting for a makeover for my office.
