Octy The Purple……

Chandelier!!!

1Thrift Store Chandelier Purple 014

Do you guys remember a couple of weeks ago when I asked if you loved this color?

75% of you loved this color as much as I do.

Its Rich Plum by Krylon. I pretty much want to paint everything in my house with it.

One of the biggest ways to add impact in a room is to change the lighting. Simple updates like that make the biggest difference ever.

My future BFF Nate Berkus did a segment a week or 2 ago where he talked about using really neutral lighting fixtures to update a space.

You know where I am going with this right?

I agree with him to a degree. If you are spending hundreds of dollars on a chandelier you should get something that will go with everything.

But.

What if you find something awesome for say $15.00 at a thrift store and add 2 cans of spray paint? Does it have to be neutral then?

I say pssh to that concept.

Something like this is much more exciting don’t you think?

Thrift Store Chandelier Purple 015

The practically perfect plummy purple that pretty poignantly portrays that a person possesses a pair. (You know what kind of pair I am talking about right?)

When you shop at thrift stores and your husband knows how to rewire a light fixture then guess what? You can change things up as much as you want.

Its cost effective, different and just plain rockstar.

Cause I mean who really wants to spend $500 on a light anyway?…..

Don’t be afraid to change things up. Don’t be afraid to do something that is against  the norm. I have nothing else in my house that is purple. But guess what? I don’t care.

If I wanted stuff to be the same as everyone elses I would have left the light that was in it there.

So what are you going to do this weekend that is against the norm?

  1. Love the purple! I did an antique chair in this purple last week! Love love love, breathtaking. You are so right about changing up, you light makes a huge impact!

  2. Holy Shatner! I love this and you for even thinking this…..and your husband for making it a reality. Dig your purple pair, Lady!

  3. I think that’s so, so true. If I’m investing in something that’s going to stay, that I don’t want to or plan to change, then yep, neutral is totally the way to go.

But when you find a score like that chandy for 15 bucks? Who cares if it’s purple – even if you only love it that way for a week, there’s nothing stopping you from changing the color any time you want (and without any guilt because you barely spent anything on it!)

    high five, girl.

  4. I can’t bring myself to spending $500 on my car, much less a light.
I really like your light! My “pair” are much smaller than yours. I’d love to see something like this in my office. Your entryway can really pull off this look, though. Quite lovely.

    Quite.

  5. That looks amazing!!!! Love it girl and the purple is too perfect!! You definitely got your mojo back (I know you will get that from our convo the other day and not think I’m leaving a mean comment). Love ya!

  6. i wish i had a husband who could rewire….that being said this chandelier ROCKS! i love it so much and i love that you can pull it off with your decor so well! truly inspiring for the rest of us as we decide what to do with our found treasures!!!

  7. i love it! so inspiring! at this very moment, i have TWO thrift store light fixtures that need a face lift and i can’t decide what to do! perhaps i will try a super bold color like you did! thanks!!

  8. i am SO in love with your new chandy! before i even finished reading the post, i immediately clicked over to craigslist to search for my own treasure in disguise! AND PURPLE?!?! stunning!!!

  9. Love it! It makes a statement. I am a fan of the spraytastic! I spray everything that doesn’t move!
    keep up the inspiring work.

  10. No one ever said that you didn’t have guts. This purple chandy is the perfect example of your great ideas turned to real life.

  11. I’ve been wondering what you were going to paint purple! Looks great! I also love how your chair turned out! Wanna sell it to me? hehe!

  12. Oh, you just seriously rocked my world with that plum goddess!

I have the most outrageously ugly brass chandelier in my living/dining room that I’ve thought about spray painting, but have resisted, because it’s so ridiculously ugly.

Maybe I ought to get all accepting of its hideousness & start spraying!

    Off to copy you…

  13. I’m new to your blog… just love all the things you’ve done! And have shared it with all my daughters. When I saw the previous picture of your chandelier, I thought..hmmm– that looks kinda dated. I should have known you had something awesome planned for it!

  14. I am ALSO new to your blog. somewhat new. I read your “real life story” a little while ago…I found it very brave and honest of you, and very respectable to write that =)
I loved your minutes of FAME on the Nate Berkus Show! AND love how you totally step outside the box majorly and just do what you LOVE. The PURPLE chandelier is so amazing and PERFECT in that entry!!!!! You are an inspiration!

  15. I absolutely love it!!!!!!! I found a similar chandelier at the thrift store for $12 dollars. But didn’t need to spray paint it cause it already was…but it’s boring black….I’m thinking I should paint it some crazy yummy color now! hmmm….I did a different chandelier I found at the same thrift store for 8 dollars, spray painted it blue and did some staining on it. I kinda like it too! Such better than the lame lights the house came with! hee hee Love thrift store lights!

  16. I’m sort of kind of completely and totally in love with that. I have a pair of heels that color and every time I wear them I walk around staring at my feet. Eeek, I need a fushia chandelier!

  17. Gahhhhhhhhh!!! That light rocks. But right now I am a very jealous girl. I have been looking for one of those darn things foreverrrr!! Where on earth can I get one?? My girls newly finished room is perfectly completed….except for one of these beautifully painted vintage chandeliers. PLEASE HELP!!!! [email protected]

  18. Soooooooooooooooooooo pretty!! Wow! I want to do one for our bedroom! Now, I’m from DK, and we don’t have that type of paint or any of the paints you use for that matter, so could you please explain what sort of paint it is you used for this chancelier? Do you use a primer first or…?

I’m addicted to your blog. You are just so amazing and inspiring – THANK you sooo much for sharing!
