Last Call and You Know You’re a Serial DIYer When….

By Mandi 11/16/2010

First item of business. This is the last call for your chance to vote for the {Crafting With The Stars} Champion Extraordinaire. I AM SO NERVOUS! Voting ends at 10:00 MST TONIGHT Like 3 hours people! If you haven’t had the chance yet PLEASE go and do it!

And now the good stuff.

You know you are a serial DIYer when….

Your not even 2 year old child knows which wall in the house the blue painters tape goes on.

How do you know that you are a serial DIYer? Best answer will win a PRIZE! (I dont know what it will be yet but I can guarentee something sa-weeeet!) Possibly this awesome vase I just snagged at the DI.

Oh oh I have another one. You know you are a serial DIYer when you think that shopping at the DI is sort of like paying your tithing. It almost counts…right? (The DI is an LDS thrift store)

  1. I know I’m a serial…get it serial DIYer when I make a lot of crap outta crap and 1 time in 10 it actually looks pretty good. And then I make more crapulous stuff.

  2. You know you’re a serial DIYer when you stand at the billing counter utterly guilty about losing control (yet again), hoping you were ground tiny so no one could see you! Or maybe if only the soles of my shoes could dig, scrape, chisel, burn a hole through the ground so you could slowly slide through and escape! But no, instead guilt conscience decides to ride home in accusing bundles!
All the best for the win! Your submissions were always something to look forward to!

  3. Jenn,
That reminds me of a girl that I met at pier 1. She only had a few days off of work for her birthday and her boyfriend was going to take her to Vegas. She told him she would rather stay home and make a tin foil nightstand! Love that girl.

  4. I knew I was a serial DIYer last Sunday, when I saw my sister in laws dining room table in the back of her truck on its way to the dump, and knew I needed to have it. I brought it home and painted and reupholstered the chairs. Then I needed a chandellier, so I found one at a thrift store and painted that. Then I needed to paint the accent wall in my dining room from yellow to aqua, to match the table. Then I had to do something with my old Dining table(which was really two tables stuck together)So I put one in a corner of my dining room, to make a craft area for me, and one in a corner of the living room to make a desk for my husband. And here I sit in my fabulous new dining room, looking at my red living room walls, thinking Im going to have to paint them grey to match the dining room, all because I saw potential in my sister in laws throw away table. Whew. That was really long, but I think this is my telling moment:)

  5. You know your are a serial DIYer when your 4-year-old child looks at something and says, “Mom, you could totally make that.” Yeah, it’s happened to me (and a few variations of it). 🙂

  6. You know you’re a serial DIYer when you’re on first name basis (as are your hubby and kids) with the manager of your favorite thrift store and your local Goodwill… “hey Lou! How are you? We”ve got some stuff you like in the back” or “I don’t think there’s anything back there that’s your style”. Yep. They know me THAT well!

  7. You know you’re a serial DIY-er when you tell the kids to get ready, you’re going shopping, and the two year yells excitedly “To the thrift store?! And the dollar store?!”

  8. You know you are a serial DIYer when the local Goodwill actually calls you when something worn & old gets dropped off….hey-what can I say, they love me there (LOL) :O)

  9. You know you’re a serial DIY-er when your three year old son screams that Hobby Lobby is closed as you turn onto the road it’s on. (It wasn’t closed. He just tried to think up a way to get out of it when he saw the inevitable coming his way.)

Found your blog last night and went through the whole thing. Love your ideas, you humor, and I’m pretty darn sure I can tell which CWTS entry was yours and I’m pretty darn sure it’s going to win. You rock. That’s all.

  10. You know you’re a DIYer when you can’t get rid of “useful” things like spaghetti sauce jars, old ribbons from gift bags..and the bags themselves! I have a hard time getting rid of things like that even though I don’t have the space to store them until I can do something with them!

  11. You know you are a DIYer when you make up a disorder S.T.M.P (starting too many projects) so that you feel better about all your “projects” lying around your house. I just blogged about my disorder tonight 😉 And for the record I voted for you ( pretty certain it was yours)…you rock and are totally gonna win!!!

  12. These comments are awesome.
You know you’re a DIYer when while out shopping at the mall you stop and admire a super cute skirt. You ask your teenage daughter if she can get your phone because your hands are full. And without a word she gets out your phone and snaps a picture of the skirt and puts the phone back. Love that girl. haha.
Oh and good luck!! LOOOOVE your project!

  13. Just yesterday, I had my apron on, working on something, and next thing I know my 2 year old daughter is standing next to me, with an apron on:) She had gone and gotten one of mine! Congratulations on the CWTS win!! Your chimney is amazing!

  14. you know you are a diyer when every store you go into, you see something cool, but don’t buy it because you are thinking, “well, I could make that!”

  15. You know your a serious DIY when looking for a new house your husband tells the real estate agent that no matter how much you plead, beg, and try to sneak them in she is not allowed to show me any fixer uppers. Esp. the ones with ‘lots of potential’ ‘old school charm’ or any ‘vinage-y feels’. (yup, he said those words) because he wants a house he can move into – not one to rebuild first. [email protected]

  16. P.S. last night at dinner my son asked if he was allowed to eat yet. I gave him a confused look and said yea why? His reply: I didn’t know if you were going to take my foods picture first. Silly boy. I only do that with cupcakes! 🙂

  17. yay! love your fireplace! i’m not a diy pro like you, but i am super excited to go to the DI again when i’m in utah… excited that i am as excited to go there as i use to be to go to tai pan!

  18. I know voting is closed but I have to throw mine out there! You know your to far gone when you worked so hard on that “new” red hutch in the kitchen but because you were a little slow and forgot to wear a mask you can’t do anything but blow red spray paint out of your nose for 3 days following ! And dangit I didn’t really want red krylon highlights in my hair but they will wash out right? So worth it!!!!!

  19. you know your a tried and true diyer when buy a truck so you can pick stuff up off the curbs.

  20. You know your a serial DIYer when your husband comes home from work and still has a piece of glitter on his face that he spontaneously picked up somehow from with in the house. lol..Then says come one! NO MORE GLITTER!!!

  21. All of these comments are making me feel less crazy! Or more crazy? Not sure but…
you know you are a serial DIY-er when your you find blue tape in your 8month old’s diaper. Or anytime you bring anything home your 4 year old son asks “what are you gonna do to it?”
