Knobby Wall

By Mandi 08/12/2010

Weird title I know. I have been dying to use the really great knobs that I found at HL. I love them. I knew that I wanted to put them on the wall in my entry way so that Ivie has somewhere to put her backpack, coat (like she needs that it was 105 today…)  because that is our biggest struggle getting out the door in the mornings “Where the CRAP is your backpack!!” and I need somewhere to put my purse.
I couldn’t decide if I was just going to mount them directly to the wall or put a small piece of wood behind them. I also thought of getting old wood and mounting them to it coat rack style. But I just wasn’t in love with any of the ideas. Yesterday I went to the DI (big surprise I know.) and someone had donated a few cabinet doors. They were really nice and modern I couldn’t figure out why… anyway I grabbed 3 (they were $2.00 a pop) just cause. On my way home I immediately decided what I wanted to do!!

So I spray painted them Krylon Gloss White,  distressed and glazed them. For the center one I taped it off and sprayed chalkboard paint in the center.

Then I drilled the holes for the knobs while they were mounted because the screws for the knobs were really long and I thought it would make it even stronger…

Ta Da! Cute right? And I loves me some functional decor….

Total Cost Of This Treasure:
Doors: $6.00
Knobs $11.00
Chalkboard Paint: $4.00
Grand Total: $21.00

  1. Mandi! I can’t believe what you keep coming up with! I may have to steal that idea! Of course I’ll have to find some doors now!

  2. I just asked Ivie if she used her new backpack knob & she said I don’t know what you’re talking about or where it is! Apparently I am the first to know!

  3. I LOVE this! Great idea!

By the way, I’m currently in the process of collecting some mirrors to do the “wall of mirrors”. Hope it’s okay I’m copying you! 😀

  4. OOOOO…me likie! ALOT! I wish we had a HL. SO not fair. Those knobs are gorgeous! I love the chalkboard one too. Super fun! Great find!

  5. Absolutely adorable! I have some old cabinet doors waiting for a project and this might be it! I just did a wall of old barn windows and screen door for my inlaws farm, very fun to do! Stop on over sometime!

  6. I need to do something similar in my laundry room, but with more knobs! 2 kids, 2 backpacks, 2 jackets,..you know how much “stuff” kids have! This turned out so cute. I do love those Hobby Lobby knobs!
