I loves me a good knock off.

By Mandi 07/31/2010

I am so excited/bummed about this post. I know I am full of it, contradictions that is. Wait what did you think I was talking about?!?! Nevermind. Like I said before I love to take super expensive things that are overpriced I really want but wont buy and make them! Like these books from {Restoration Hardware}

They are $29.00 a bundle. Stop laughing thats really how much they are! So here is what I did. I had a bunch of old readers digest books that I got from the DI about 5 years ago. Back then they were .25 a piece. I ripped the covers off of them and wrapped some Jute around them blah blah blah. I got the little metal letters from Tai Pan for .75 each because they were the random letters that nobody wants. Unless your name is Quinesha or Xantie.

Total Cost of this Treasure:
Books: I already had
Letters: 2 @ .75= $1.50
Jute: Pennies (a whole roll is $1.78 at Walmart)
Total: about $1.50
But this is what I am so excited about!
Have you ever seen this Chandy from {Pottery Barn}? Its $300.00 and so so cute!
Well I found this old girl at my local Restore for $20.00

Then I used some of this:

And this:

And started doing this….

But then my husband got sick and cant install her. Devastating I know. So check back on Monday to hopefully see me like this:

{This isnt really me, but shes cute right?}

  1. Mandi! This is your crazy old roommate Jess. Ya know, the awkward tall volleyball girl?! I saw your feature on All Things Thrifty and new it was you after the Durangos comment! 😉 LOVE this blog! You are so dang crafty and your girls are adorable. I love your revival with the Readers Digest books! Too cute! I’ll be blog-stalking you from now on!

  2. So I just linked to your blog after going to all things thrifty. Thought I would pass a hint along. I have done a few pieces of furniture with the Kilz per A.T.T. and I have found that if I shake the cans longer than the minute the can says I don’t have the sandpaper. Go closer to two minutes. If I sprayed and it was sandpaper-y I shook it some more and every time it fixed it. Good luck, I’m now a follower!
